Frederic was the leafs nightmare in the playoffs last year.
I like him if even just for that.
I do hope we're not done though.

Well what happens to Skinner then? And then with Kane coming back? Trade Kane?
They can only play 2 of Skinner, Frederic, Savoie, Kapanen, Kane.
Thats just it right? At this point, what's done is done, so I'm looking forward to seeing if they can unlock him similarly to how they unlocked Maroon years ago. Hopefully two months from now we aren't talking about the acquisition costs anymore. Hopefully this hasn't impacted their ability to look at a few other needs that still are out there.

I really like the phrase "unlock". There is a lot to consider here and I dont see the justification of putting a completely negative spin on this deal especially with the retention.
Believe me, I've got the "Management sucks" post locked and loaded. Now tell us who took over your account?![]()

I don't hate this trade but I feel like Wanner was a throw in, a 2nd round pick should've been enough for Frederic. Bruins fans like the return.
You're missing the blind optimism usually found around here any time theres a trade. Its been a recurring injury as well for Frederik this season so not sure if he even plays. For sure theres no certainty one way or the other. Just people picking best possible synopsis by default. If this is true then isn’t this a useless trade? What am I missing here?
Thats my read on this too. No need for the 2nd retention unless there is more coming. What would be the point of the 2nd retention if they are done making deals? I think there's no way they're done. This seems like a smaller deadline move although I could be wrong.
The last thing I will say about this.
Is it screams the same issue our pro scouts and management have had for a long time.
They saw a player good once, haven’t paid attention for a while and see the player as the guy they remember, not the one they currently are.
It has effected us getting players who have fallen off a cliff, or it causes us to spend to much based on how a player used to be.
I think Frederic was great last year and liked him a lot but the current version isn’t that guy and I’m hoping he can bounce back.
You don’t buy low at the deadline. You rent guys who are playing well. Buying low is smart in the off season.
Frederic’s not a speed demon. Drafted 29th overall in 2016, his scouting reports—like those from EliteProspects—highlight a “heavy, physical game” over finesse. He’s got decent straight-line speed but lacks the agility or edgework of a top skater—think more bulldozer than figure skater. His 12 goals and seven assists in 58 games this year (before the injury) come from net-front presence, not dazzling rushes.Tough to find out any info about Frederics skating.
They could have fit Frederic in at $1.15 when he comes off LTIR by sending down Kapanen. The double retention creates some cap space for us- I can't see them doing that for no reason. I would bet they add a defenceman, the question is how big is the target.Frederic was the leafs nightmare in the playoffs last year.

They did, they also got caved in their match ups.Janmark, Brown and Henrique were key roles in the playoffs last year.

All that was said is he laid a hit against McCabe, messed up and went into the boards and then had his ankle taped up and then into a walking boot.Any word on what the injury is? I know teams like to keep that sort of thing under wraps but I hope it wasnt a nasty high ankle sprain.
If his straight line speed is NHL average or better then I am fine with that.Frederic’s not a speed demon. This is an org that once signed a player they weren’t allowed to, traded for a young player that no one had watched for a couple years. This org does weird stuff all the time, so, maybe?Hmmm. So you think they traded for Frederic without doing an extensive look into his injury or timeline?
I'd say picking the worst possible synopsis is what's actually happening
