The Nuge
Some say…
It’s not a bad trade, and I don’t dislike the player, but it seems odd to go get a winger when it’s literally the last thing we need right now
Not at all. If this was a player with term than his history the last few years would matter. However. This is a pending UFA, a guy who will also be coming off an injury. I would argue that his play this year is much more meaningful to how he will continue to play for us this year than previous years.Pretty simple...because Max Jones inst as good a player as Frederic.
So you are suggesting that Frederics down year this season defines the player more than the multiple good years prior to this season?
I dont agree with that at all.
Lachance must have signalled he wasn’t going to sign.Happy for Frederic but losing Wanner, Lachance and a 2nd is rough.
Frederic has 55G's alltime. Only two of his seasons played has he even resembled a goal scorer. Your point reversed, are you letting two seasons in a whole career define what the player is.Pretty simple...because Max Jones inst as good a player as Frederic.

I dont agree with that at all.
Giving up on a player that hs a history of being a good player just because he is having an off year is an example of a team not getting enough value for said player.
That IMO is what the Bruins did here.
The interesting thing about that is that players who are in their UFA season usually have their best season so IMO that suggests other factors are at play here. Not at all. So in a way, yeah. His recent play defines his recent play.
Just like Arvidsson. I don’t care that he used to be good the last few years. I care that his current play is bad and that worries me for the rest of the season
You don’t buy low at the deadline. You rent guys who are playing well. Buying low is smart in the off season. The interesting thing about that is that players who are in their UFA season usually have their best season so IMO that suggests other factors are at play here.
Arvidsson is not a comparable because his down year came with a different team which isnt all that unusual.
If I was a GM I would be looking at players who are having down years becasue the potential for buying low is much better in those situations.
I have no issue at all with this deal as a matter of fact I think its a very good deal for this team.
and many Bruins players are having great seasons? dude is 27The last thing I will say about this.
Is it screams the same issue our pro scouts and management have had for a long time.
They saw a player good once, haven’t paid attention for a while and see the player as the guy they remember, not the one they currently are.
It has effected us getting players who have fallen off a cliff, or it causes us to spend to much based on how a player used to be.
I think Frederic was great last year and liked him a lot but the current version isn’t that guy and I’m hoping he can bounce back.
And he's only 27, not a kid but definitely a guy that has some prime runway left. The Oilers desperately needed to inject some younger legs into the lineup so I like it from that standpoint as opposed to a guy like Tanev who is past his prime.Pretty simple...because Max Jones inst as good a player as Frederic.

Gonna wait to judge this move, on Friday, when the totality of all trade deadline and roster machinations are complete.
Looking at these moves in individual views is incomplete.
Let’s see what else they have up their sleeves. A lot more holes to plug yet.
Fallen off a cliff at 27 years old?The last thing I will say about this.

I don't know. Listening to local radio for the past 3 months and they've been talking about a guy like Frederic and actually Frederic himself as a need for this team. It’s not a bad trade, and I don’t dislike the player, but it seems odd to go get a winger when it’s literally the last thing we need right now
There was a post on here that indicated not to pay much attention to the Boston mob on HF.
In my experience here that has a ring of truth to it because fans typically have a very short memory.
This player was pretty good the previous couple of years before this season. Down years happen so I am not too concerned with fan opinion.
I like the fact that he plays big and can pot a few goals at 5x5 but I wish I knew more about his skating.
I honestly don't know, but is the guy looking at turning pro next season?I'm guessing Lachance didn't want to sign in Edmonton
Totally agree and the liklihood that he signs here (on a contending team) is very good as well. And he's only 27, not a kid but definitely a guy that has some prime runway left. The Oilers desperately needed to inject some younger legs into the lineup so I like it from that standpoint as opposed to a guy like Tanev who is past his prime.
I think this becomes a good deal if they re-sign him, he's a guy that can be a fixture on the 3rd line for a few years maybe filling the Holloway role somewhat. Why didn't they match that offersheet again? Anyway, I digress.
Lachance probably wasn't signing and Wanner is on a downtrend.Did we seriously just give up 2 of our top 10 prospects and mulitple draft picks for an injured upcoming UFA that fans of his existing team hated?
That's kind of the roster that we have though. Can't wait for Frederic to finish a few checks and Knobber to pull him aside and tell him, "we don't do that here."
jk. I like Knob but this team plays a pretty pansy-ass go-into-the-corner-with-eggs-in-your-pants brand of soft hockey.
That (not moving their feet) is a common complaint for most big players. He's a decent skater, doesn't have great top end speed, but the first step is good.
I remember reading their board in January and Boston's fans main critique of him is can just go through the motions, as he stops pumping his feet and just coasts; think of a uninspired Zack Kassian. Though apparently a move to centre helped start turn his game around.
He’s an American kid who has played hockey in America his entire life. His chance of resigning here is very low.Totally agree and the liklihood that he signs here (on a contending team) is very good as well.
This is my take. This is the Oilers splash right here. Lets not pretend this is an org that goes out and gets a bunch done at TDL. This seemingly was their main focus.Little confused. Need a goalie and another D but we blow our draft pick wad on an underachieving bottom 6 forward?
Reminds me a bit of the coke bottle days, if you are big we want you.
Guess this means that either Kane is on the way out or we are digging into our better prospect pool to upgrade the G and D.
Idk I think you have to look at it as having a weak prospect pool since we're competitive now. Yeah, might have been our best prospects but far from a guarantee at the NHL level. Frederic helps with depth abd is a good 3rd/4th line guy. Not a bad deal imo.Did we seriously just give up 2 of our top 10 prospects and mulitple draft picks for an injured upcoming UFA that fans of his existing team hated?
