We could get MacKinnon at this point and that won’t matter to me. We need a starting goalie.
True but they are assets that could be used to help us get a player that is actually healthy and hasn’t played like crap all year.Like clockwork.
The odds of anything we traded, including the 2nd, becoming anything more than a bit level NHL player are incredibly low.
I remember the same. Bruins fans had really turned on Frederic. Myself I thought he had some pretty notable drop off. Could be related to the team. Maybe he's the kind of player that needs to be on a competitive side and the Bruins are frankly awful.Fair enough. Most of my pessimism comes from interactions with Bruins fans after we last played them where all they could say about the guy was that he always did dumb shit that hurt the team on the ice and they couldn't wait to trade him away.
I wouldn't have much issue with the trade if the assets were less, but a 2nd round pick from this year was one of our biggest bargaining chips left after O'Reilly or Savoie. Then they threw in their 2nd best d prospect (right shot even) and a huge winger that's having a breakout season in college.

Depends how high they are on Lachance. Bowman might view it as a nothing prospect and trying to get as much cap as possible for other moves.Kind of feel like this means it really is money in money out. Not sure why you'd pay for extra retention on Frederic if that was the case (considering that if they are going into LTIR, they have quite a bit of space).
Outside of Savoie, O'Reilly, Akey, and Beryozkin all of the oilers prospects are essentially C-tier prospects. I wouldn't worry too much. Wanner hasn't progressed at all this year, and Lachance has massive skating concerns.Did we seriously just give up 2 of our top 10 prospects and mulitple draft picks for an injured upcoming UFA that fans of his existing team hated?
Yeah it really depends on whether they have anything else lined up.Depends how high they are on Lachance. Bowman might view it as a nothing prospect and trying to get as much cap as possible for other moves.
I agree he is our middle 6, but why does the price suggest that? We didn't blow any big assets? We still have Savoie, SOR, 1st, Akey, the Russian kidThe price paid suggest he has to be their middle 6 forward acquisition.
Welll...better to buy low and add a player having a down year and a history of being good.True but they are assets that could be used to help us get a player that is actually healthy and hasn’t played like crap all year.
Which valuable assets? It was a mid to late 2nd round pick and a couple of longshot prospects, what was the 4th one?
nah, he's exactly what he is....energy player who plays in the bottom 6 and provides grit and speed, something the Oilers lackSo is Frederic.
is it? 3 assets that have a higher chance than not of being NHL regulars for a player that fills a few holes for our playoff stretchSteep price to pay, hope Frederic gets healthy soon.
Even if they have nothing else ready to pull the trigger on you have no idea what is going to end up being available cheap(asset wise) at the last minute on friday.Yeah it really depends on whether they have anything else lined up.
Yup so go out and trade SOR and a 1st for Nelson. And WIN NOW.One thing that irks me continually is how this org is so awful with cap structure that it seems like every guy they bring in has to have buyback or some other deferred cap or gimmicks just to fit him in. This of course meaning it costs us in other ways to obtain that kind of "desperate" deal. The Oilers lose further prospects that they don't even care about because of how awful cap management is. Of course this being a continual thing.
This team is gonna look full of holes in a few yrs. Won't be any cheap ECLs or prospects to be found here.

Spending a 2nd on a third line pending UFA isn’t buying low.Welll...better to buy low and add a player having a down year and a history of being good.
The only issue here IMO is the injury and if the injury is the primary reason for the down year.
Hoping that this isnt a chronic injury.
He gives the Oilers something it needs. This was by and large a team of smurfs.
I was waiting to see how long it would take for the Oilers to trade Max Wanner and here we are! Sucks that we couldn’t get an experienced d-man with term in return but whatever. I would have loved this trade more if Frederic was not injured !Happy for Frederic but losing Wanner, Lachance and a 2nd is rough.
