This trade is not really Draisaitl for Zibanejad and Lafreniere even without the Oiler's first. For the next two years this deal probably favours NY because it could be two to three years before Lafreniere is a significant factor. At that time if he reaches the level of say Taylor Hall factoring contracts the deal is more like Draisaitl and a $6M player vs Zibanejad and Lafreniere because the cap space to pay the Ranger's pair needs to be found. So from an Oiler perspective it is more like Draisaitl and Nuge vs Zibanejad and Lafreniere in terms of the real impact long term.

Zibanejad and Lafreniere is a fantastic package but I would not do this trade from an Oiler's perspective.

I'd be shocked if any GM would choose the 1st overall over Draisaitl. Moreover, if it was my team and I was the owner I'd fire that guy on the spot if he did.

There's no way Lafreniere has more value than Draisaitl.

i honestly can’t compute how someone could really think that a draft pick has more value than the guy that just won the Art Ross at 24, has a 50 goal season, and is signed to what is today a very, very good deal. Gorton would actually wet himself if Holland lost his mind and offered Draisaitl for 1st overall.

Draisaitl is the extreme upper echelon of what you pray your pick turns into.
