Kane and Pickard/Skinner for Elvis.

Oilers get a goalie who has actually been good 5on5 and on breakaways. Columbus gets a gritty forward that can still produce. One of the Oilers goalies go back the other way.

Don't want Evander Kane anywhere near this team even if you pay us considerably to take him on.

If you want to do something like Arvidsson and one of the goalies for Elvis, that's worth considering. But absolutely no on Kane.
I'm a neutral observer who just thought that Columbus looking for sandpaper and Kane no longer having a NMC, and the Oilers needing a goalie could end up trading. But that's valid to not want Kanes off ice antics.

Done, Oilers would prefer to trade Arvidsson over Kane anyways, thats for sure. You can have Arvidsson for free or even less than free.

If the player he is on the ice was all that he was, there might be something. But we literally paid a premium to get Laine away from here; that should tell something w/r/t what Waddell thinks of potential locker room troublemakers.

Ehhh. Elvis is more of what we already have. Great highs, damn near unplayable lows. Hasn’t been good from a GSAX standpoint in years, and he makes more than double what Skinner does. I’d need Columbus to eat half to even think about it. It’s way easier to bury a bad forward than a bad goalie.

Edmonton doesn’t need “a goalie”. Edmonton needs a goalie that can help them win a Stanley Cup. Elvis isn’t that guy.

I'd take Elvis over Gibson pretty easily. And if all it takes is a swap of salary, I think they'd be foolish not to make that upgrade.

What other alternatives do you have in this market realistically?

Allen, Lyon, Forsberg. Offer sheet Hofer. Saros if Nashville goes full rebuild which it sounds like they might. I’d take Gibson over Elvis too.

Elvis is Latvian Stuart Skinner at double the cap hit. Big no thank you.

I mean one was a healthy scratch and one had to go from 0 to 100 after not playing all year, but still did not sit a game in the playoffs.

Other than Allen, I'm not convinced the guys you mentioned would be an upgrade on Calvin Pickard considering we're looking at a guy capable of handling a 40 game workload. Not sure that offersheeting Hofer accomplishes either. We'd never get to negotiate with another RFA.

Gets us a good goalie or screws the Blues. Pluses all around.

Elvis plays 40 games routinely. He does so poorly, if that’s the tier of goaltending you want we might as well go get Tristan Jarry. He was decent five years ago too.

Waddell would be all too familiar with him too. Pretty sure he was GM/Presidenti in Atlanta at the start of Kane’s career.

Do this to get Merzlikins to Oilers and Skinner off of Edmonton, and then Columbus flip Evander Kane to Detroit.

Not exactly sure which way you'd wanna do that... Kane to Detroit for Tarasenko plus maybe. You could do something involving Holl plus maybe. Talbot and Skinner swap if both teams want...

However you wanna structure the roster pieces, Detroit has picks or D prospects that could be added to a lesser player (Tarasenko Berggren Chiarot Soderblom or Holl?) to make a deal with Columbus for Evander Kane fair value.

Ekholm is worth far more than Elvis, even with full retention on Elvis.

Kind of depends on Ekholm's condition for next season. If he can't play a top pair role anymore, then at $6m he is a prime target for the Oilers to move. Walman, Nurse, and Kulak are already under contract on the left side, Ekholm has no NTC. Obviously Ekholm was worth significantly more than that prior to this Spring, but he was bad in the playoffs following his injury, and might follow a more typical decline path for a player his age. His inclusion in this deal is not to add value in order to get Elvis, it's to clear salary, and send him to a team where they can afford to pay Ekholm to play a less demanding role.

Let the Oilers find a home for Kane. No need to have the Jackets do that job.

That doesn't solve Elvis and Skinner finding new homes though. It also means that Columbus wouldn't be getting a D prospect or a pick.

This is a very HFBoards mentality of "negotiating trades is hard work so let the other team do the work". The job of an NHL GM is to make the best team they can make. If they can add a draft pick or prospect that could help the team, but the GM has to do the hard work of negotiating the deal, that's his job to put in the work necessary to get a trade done. Anything to make the team better now and tomorrow.

They have more cap flexibility than we do though. The only reason why their offersheets were effective was due to our cap predicament and team status. They're a retooling franchise. They'd either match or they'd run the price up on every RFA we have from now until eternity.

I'm not sure I buy the 'goalie tiers' either. Year over year you see guys who go from the bottom half of that list to the top half. I lean towards a guy with a clean record of staying healthy and playing large stretches of games consistently.
