Proposal: Edmonton and Washington

Joe Snively has been scratched for all 4 Caps games so far as their 14th forward.

Snively is a small forward at just 5’9” 175lbs (175cm 79.3kg) making 800k x 2 seasons.

Snively has a good nose for the puck and is an energy type of player, he’s also not bad on the boards as he does win some puck battle’s despite his size but he’s a depth player which is why Snively will be sitting in the press box until injures occur in the Caps lineup, unless a condition assignment to Hershey is in Snively’s future if he doesn’t see any games action by the end of the month.

Brown and Kuzy may have both been injured tonight...Kuzy should be getting suspended.

Oilers should be all over that honestly. Puljujarvi is a younger Trevor Lewis. Good in his own end but kills every offensive chance he's involved with. Even McDavid can't help him. Oilers shouldn't have signed that contract. They should have invested in a shutdown D with that cap.

Oilers have Markus Niemelainen who is a shutdown d

He's a physical defenseman and better than some guys defensively. The last shutdown D pairing the Oilers had was Klefbom and Larsson. That Klefbom injury really set them back. He was a very underrated player, just couldn't stay healthy.

Even if both teams wanted to make this deal, Washington doesn't have the cap space to make it work.

If Puljujarvi is young Trevor Lewis, who/what is Joe Snively?

That's a pretty terrible offer for the Oilers.

It's a terrible deal for Edmonton, regardless of cap savings. Dumb.
I disagree. They need cap space. Puljujarvi isn't worth his cap hit. If you move him now you can add a 3rd line forward and shutdown D at the deadline. I seriously doubt Edmonton is qualifying him this offseason anyway. According to Friedman no one offered a mid round pick for him.

If it were your team you'd disagree pretty easily. There are better ways to make cap space without trading away Puljujarvi for nothing.

Snively has made the most of his opportunities so far, and deserves more opportunities. I wouldn't be surprised if he broke out and established himself as a legit regular NHL player. Think Jay Beagle.

Cap space isn't nothing. Teams are moving out top picks for it. I get it. He was a 4OA pick, but a defensive specialist can't make 3M. You won't accrue any deadline space with the roster as constituted. You're correct that you need a shutdown D. As it stands that can't happen. Oilers are already playing without a full roster 2 games in. Ask Vegas how that went. I'd say Foegele is a better player than JP. You almost have to move one of them.
