I agree that a 1st isn't enough mid-season, but the Avs recently got Devon Toews for a couple of 2nds. If the Oilers miss the playoffs (they are essentially in a 3 way tie for the 2nd wild card spot, based on P%), I could see a team with a cap crunch potentially being very happy to get a mid-first in return for a guy they can't afford to keep.

To be fair that trade was seen as a steal

I'm going to mention that fedotov is blocked by Hart in Philly and bump this thread after the Olympics

As has been suggested:

To Edmonton: Halak, Dickinson, 2023 4th round pick

To Vancity: 2022 1st, Koskinen, 2023 3rd round pick

Not both in once trade but 2 trades

Trade 1 - A young or under 30 goalie signed for a few years for Edmonton 1st either year . Money will have to go the other way as we have no cap space .

What team has a goalie that they could move ?

Trade 2 - a stay at home physical LD signed for 2 years or longer . A defence man that doesn't get caved in .

Lots of fan think Barrie is a cap dump . He isn't he is just a specialist . Good at what he does . Does anyone have any interest in him ?

Prospect can also be included except for Broberg , Holloway and Bourgault .

We would trade our 1st for rentals so do not offer Chiarot or goalies that are in their mid 30s

So basically you want to acquire players that fill holes for Edmonton but not give up anything of value to make that happen… good luck, there are now more Evander Kane’s sitting around waiting to be signed.

Absolutely. But I'd think a mid-1st has more value than two 2nds, so it could get a top 4D in a similar situation. I'm not sure if anyone is actually going to be available for cap reasons this off-season, but I think that's the Oilers' best chance of getting someone for just that pick.

I understand historically that is the case. I'm just go over last year and the rumor for chiarot.

But even so, the poster wants a sub 30 top 4 dman with term. My general point holds those cost more than a late 1st.

Hell Edmonton may miss the playoffs . Where the hell is this late first coming from ? Chiarot sure the hell isn't taking Edmonton from a boater line play off team to a cup contender , So I ask again where are you getting this late first from in my OP ?

I don't care what reports has to say . Chiarot isn't worth a 1st . How do the so call insiders know ? They are guessing . It isn't like a GM told them I am offering a 1st for him . Chiarot is slow and useless . This came out of some Montreal fans own mouths .
Bookmarked.

In b4, well that GM is dumb.

the 1st or 1st round player value will be part of the Chiarot deal.

If it was my team i would absolutely hate it but history shows that's what these type of players are worth at the deadline and it happens every single year.

It's crazy how sharply Barrie's hockey career has nosedived since being traded from Colorado. Bet he regrets listening to Newport in trying to squeeze Sakic for a bigger payday.

I thought that Chiarot was being absurdly undervalued in these proposals, until I realized that I was thinking of Chabot.

A first don't have value ? Edmonton is a boarder line playoff team that pick is mid first . Plus prospects which include Petrov , Savoie , Samorukov and others . Altho many Oilers fans won't want to move them especially Petrov . Incase you go on about where they were drafted . look at what they done since . In a redraft those players go much higher .

I think sakic paying what he did is proof that you will not get a sub 30 goalie with term is possible. I mean it’s not wrong to dream reality speaks otherwisr

I can understand why the Oilers would not offer up a 1st for Chairot or even want him. They are barely a playoff team but for a true cup contender paying out a late 1st for a chairot type of player is a no brainer.

That seems like a gross overpay from the Oilers...
Not really, they want to get Koskinen off the team with his hefty contract and get a much better goalie on a way cheaper deal that allows them cap space elsewhere so they dont waste ANOTHER year of Mcdavid. No brainer for the Oilers to go for something like this

I wouldnt say gross overpay but Dickinson makes it lopsided in Canucks favour. They cant have that contract coming back. Koskinen + 2nd for Halak would probably be a better base. Depends on if Canucks can get better offers for him.

What kind of goalie are you hoping to get if you’re including a cap dump with your first. He’s going to be marginally better than what you have now if that’s the offer

What would you offer the Bruins for Ullmark and Carlo. Get both yours asks in one move? This would be an off season trade though. Assuming Ullmark would waive
