This is a crazy one, but its for fun more than anything else.

To Oilers: Neal Pionk
Nic Ehlers

To Jets: Evan Bouchard

The power play in both cities suffers no losses. They are both incredible on it as Ehlers increased role has paid big dividends for the Jets pp. Pionk moderates the loss of Bouchard for the Oilers and Ehlers erases the disappointment of a Jeff Skinner/Arvidsson. A line with mcDavid and Ehlers would have so much speed I can't see many, if any, d pairings able to stop them.

Ehlers may take a discount contract wise if he can play with Edmonton long term. Same goes with Pionk.

Bouchard transforms Winnipeg's defence into above average into high-end. Perfetti and Chibrikov can moderate the loss of offence in the forward group.

Jets have 5 mil in salary cap space making Bouchard re-signable.

This is dependent if next week we learn Ehlers does not want to re-sign with us.

Happy new Year!!

Interesting one, despite me being strongly against trading Ehlers this is not bad if we were forced to
Not sure if Edmonton needs another speedy winger though

LOL. Nope. Bouchard ain't available.

Especially for a brittle bones Ehler and the inconsistent Pionk.

don't really see the need from winnipeg, we need another top 6 to play with ehlers on the second line as is and we have jmo running the top unit pp

Pionk wouldn't be a shabby replacement. Not sure Edmonton needs Ehlers though. Both probably say no, but value isn't ridiculous.

As a Jets fan, I'd do this if we 100% knew Ehlers isn't re-signing

Finally a top pairing guy to play with JoMo

As a Jets fan who absolutely loves Ehlers, I'd do this in a heartbeat for the RHD aspect and like previously stated pair with Samberg. The new contract scares me though on Bouchard as Jets won't pay anything north of 9m and the ask has to be higher

Edmonton
So nice of you to give two ufas to be for an rfa that had the best single playoff offensive production since the 90s.
Perfectly said.

Edmonton can’t make this work in-season because Ehlers and Pionk make almost 12 million combined in comparison to Bouchard’s 3.9, and because the two are both pending UFA’s it makes absolutely zero sense long term.

Bouchard is also a playoff juggernaut and a top 10 defenceman in the league. Some Oilers fans hate him, but those people are stupid and are to be ignored. Two UFA’s doesn’t start the conversation around that guy.

Makes all kinds of sense from a Jets POV but I have no idea why Edmonton would want any part of this. I’d also want no part of buying high on Pionk, who has been a 30-40 point guy his whole career and is now suddenly on pace for 65. Pass. That’s got bad juju all over it.

The Bouch ask is more than you can afford.

Cool idea though. I would love to see Pionk added to our blue line and to have Ehlers replace Skinner.

I'm not high enough on Bouchard to be all that keen on this trade. Like others have said, we could use a solid 2C this TDL and I don't want us trading Ehlers to get one. He's one of the only players on this team that isn't guilty of overpassing the puck in shooting positions and he's made our top PP unit very successful this season. Figure out his extension in the off season or use his cap space to re-sign the 2C if need be.

As an Oil fan, I’d be curious why the Jets would entertain this? I don’t see how it makes them a better team today, and that should be all they should be concerned with in my opinion. If they’re gonna try and win a cup, this would be the year to try and do it.

I think I would do it as an Oilers fan (other moves would need to be made to be cap compliant), but I’m a fan of both Ehlers and Pionk and only lukewarm on Bouch. He has a great breakout pass/vision and skill, as well as a bomb of a shot, but he takes an equal amount of ill-advised risks and never met a shin pad he could say no to. He also plays with zero ferocity, like every game is the All-Star game.

If Bouch gets north of 8 mil, it will be a regrettable deal.

Bouchard is a good defenseman, but not the type that the Jets need to add. I’m not 100% against the proposal if the door on an Ehlers extension is closed, but Bouchard is about to get overpaid.
