Karel Vejmelka (G, $2.725 M AAV X 1 year) @ 50%

:utah

Brett Kulak (LHD, $2.75 M AAV X2 Years)
Calvin Pickard (G, $1 M AAV X 2 Years)

The Oilers get an upgrade in goal and some cap space which they really need.
Utah gets a defenseman which they could use as three starters are on IR. They get a back up to replace Vejmelka. KV has lost his starter position to Ingram anyway.

Ehh I'd rather look at other backup goalie options in the summer than be locked into Pickard next season. I realize he could be sent to the AHL, but seems unlikely.

I'd consider this for the cap savings. I'd really be concerned about the D core and how it could even survive till the deadline though.

Ekholm - Bouchard
Nurse - Emberson
Dermott - Stetcher

Utah probably sign a drafted prospect goalie next summer too (Hrabal or Thelin)!

Cant afford to lose Kulak without at least a replacement coming back, imo. Things are already thin.

Dude is a sneaky good player.

I think Kulak is the guy you should be focused on.

Bill Armstrong is pretty adamant about not wanting to add term on D. The left side next season is pretty locked in with Sergachev, Simashev, and one of Valimaki/Duda/Kolyachonok.

I still would like Provorov and have one of those 3 as the 7th D... but it all depends on his $$$ demands!

How about Kulak straight?

The big criticism for the Oilers is that their D is thin. Yet they should trade one of their few solid defenseman, without one coming back?

Ya that was my thinking. Kulak is a perfectly reasonable bottom pairing guy. Unlikely they'd replace him mid season and still save cap.

I don't see what possible reason Utah would have to trade Vejmelka for zero assets that help them in the future or now.

LOL, the bottom 4 defenders were all let go by the Coyotes.

Utah has Sergachev, Cole, Kolyachonok, Maatta, and Valimaki on the left side already. Why add another?
Get rid of Cole and Valimaki and add Provorov, but that has nothing to do with this thread and at the moment, just wishful thinking on my part.
But to add to the thread, Utah has no desire to add to the D if the player isn't a legit top 4...

Well, one is in the minors, and the other is rumoured to be on his way there soon too. It sure does seem like we have a fetish for former Coyote defensemen though. I'd lol, but it worries me.
And we got rid of them to make room for Kesselring.
