I think moving Kulak to the right side is a disaster waiting to happen in the playoffs. Hopefully Walman can play right side and actually wants to play right side or the trade kinda confuses me.
And beyond that, it the whispers are that the conditional pick is a 1st? In what world does it make sense to trade a 1st rounder for a guy to be your 3LD.

And yet Ceci has better numbers in all three categories.
So you think Ceci is a better Dman?

Or do you think cherrypicking some stats isn't the best way to judge a player? He's playing top pair minutes on a trash team every night, and you fail to bring up that he has very good offensive metrics, which with our fwds compared to the Sharks, will lead to less time in the dzone. Id bet playing second pair here will be a breath of fresh air for him.

I am assuming its top 10 protected or something

I am hoping hes not the 3LD. But in reality Coffey doesn’t deploy the pairings the way we typically write them. Walman has been playing 20+ minutes a night.

In no way is he a "3rd pairing dman". Whoever suggests that has clearly never watched him. (Or even looked at his stat line?)

I watched a ton of Walman this year; he's an absolute steal for you guys. He moves very well, and was top dman in SJ by a mile.
Appreciate the input Nona. :thumbu:

So he was getting 1st unit PP time as well?

On Rishaug's GYB post game podcast happening right now, he says the belief is there is no third party retention.

Walman is 8th on the Sharks in GA/60 5x5 (3.22) 7th in HDGA/60 (1.43) and 9th in On Ice Sv% (89.2), this would be last on the Oilers except Dineen.

Yeah the Sharks are bad and maybe he’s played a pair higher than he should, but that’s a bit scary.
I wonder how that is effected by his usage… Walman was 2nd on the team in minutes against elites (Ceci more) and in that time 7GF 15GA, which is 1 less goal against than Ekholm and Bouchard. Players who play more against elites tend to have more goals against and more high danger chances for. It comes with the territory.

Reading more into this, watching highlights and looking at stats. He is a deceptive player.
He seems to be good puck moving and offensively but his defensive game is very up and down. Not consistent and his good is only okay.
He has spent the majority of his time playing on the left side, rarely on the right. Last year he had a rough year and was rough by most metrics. This year he has bounced back but the second half hasn’t been as good.

My still biggest issue with this deal is neither Kulak nor Nurse should be on their off side and Walman clearly hasn’t done it much either.

Now if the return is only a nothing prospect and a 1st well…this has spent 1sts on worst.
