The pick will surely be conditional in the sense that San Jose will get a different one if the Oilers somehow end up drafting in the top 5 for that particular year.

But eh, good middle pairing guys with term cost a lot.

Reaction to this trade confirms that there's no winning with some of you.

NJ paid a 2ND for BRIAN DUMOULIN with jack hughes out for the playoffs. TB paid TWO 1sts for Gourde and Bjorkstrand.

Good deal. I don't think the goalie trade happens, but I'm still hopeful for another F addition if we can send some money back.

one of the scouting reports for Walman says he is a turnover machine
He plays 23 minutes a night on the Sharks, and has 63 giveaways in 50 games.

Ekholm has over 80 in 60 games, and Bouchard has over 100 in 60. Our only 2 Dmen playing Walman minutes.

Nurse surprisingly is one of our best D at limiting his turnovers, so he should be a good partner for Walman too.

Look at the numbers for yourself, not just what talking heads who get paid for engagement say.

But you're not giving up a package like that for a depth D. You're giving up a package like that for a guy to take on an Ekholm-like role or at the very least, a 20-22 minute role alongside Nurse. If he's paired with Emberson, we're talking like a 17-18 minute guy.
I really like Walman btw but the fit is odd unless they think he can play the right side.
The way Knob/Coffey like to mix and match their dmen I wouldn’t worry too much about who his “regular” partner is, I fully expect he’ll be coming in with around 20 min a night with multiple different partners. It would also probably be a good thing to cut back on Ekholm’s minutes a bit as he’s been struggling lately, gotta wonder how the long run last summer is affecting him being that he’s coming up on 35 shortly.

For what it's worth, he hasn't done any goal dances this year

I agree. When all is said and done I may still give a low grade to our deadline, but I like this move in a vacuum

And I won't mark the deadline until it's over

Really like the player, be interesting where they slot him into, given his preference to play in the leftorium.. Hopefully there is a plan in place. ;)

A 1st + prospect does not get you a lot at the deadline. You aren’t getting a top line player for that at the deadline.
