I haven’t seen any say a 2nd without a prospect works. I was heavily in the MP thread where we discussed value.

A 2nd and a 5th would be all I would offer from the Oilers, but I am not Stan Bowman so who knows what is on the table, if anything.

Would you move Beau Akey considering what the team has in the pipeline? I wouldn't and I am not even that high on BA.

If Marcus Pettersson only costs a 2nd round pick as a rental I'd buy him as a rental in NJD and we don't even need a dman.

It depends upon how Klingberg does in February.
Pettersson doesn't have the same reputation as guys like Giordano and Tanev had in past when they fetched 2nd+

Just because he is playing top 3 minutes in PIT doesn't make him a legit top 4 Dman.

Oilers forced Broberg to play RD instead of Nurse. Pettersson to EDM will only happen if he is looked at as 2nd pair RD.

He was a top 4 dman for the Penguins when they won the division in 2021. Pettersson is legit.

He's been on the top pairing with Karlsson for the last two years.

Yea he's gonna get a 2nd and a good prospect or a 1st. Ben Chiarot got a 1st at the deadline.

A lot of teams will very easily beat a second round pick straight up. That’s not going to get the job done for a rental of MP’s quality.

Today, I likely would. Yes, I would have some reservations about it though Akey is not a deal breaking asset to move. In the bigger picture, our window is now and another top 4D such as Pettersson gives us a world of options and the D depth needed for a team to attempt a Championship run.

I'd much rather move a prospect like Akey vs be sitting here after a playoff exit going why, why didn't the team add a top 4D when we had both the cap space and assets to make the move. For me this isn't Sam O'Reilly or Matt Savoie who I wouldn't include in the deal for a rental. Akey or Jarventie I would. If given the choice I'd move Jarventie first due to Akey being a RD and organizational need moving forward which you've mentioned. Beyond that, if that's the cost to add a top 4D at the deadline, I'd pay it.

Edit. It's not just wanting 1 of the rumoured better D expected to be available at the deadline, it's also keeping him away from potential opponents.. I would expect Dallas as an example to take a run at adding Pettersson. They have both the need for another top 4 D and the cap space for it with Seguin's LTIR. They also attempted to bring back Klingberg, so they are looking too.

I am definitely on board with 2nd + Akey in order to land MP, and as Empoleon8771 mentioned, it has been discussed in other threads and seems like a fair price. Akey is a few years away, and this is as good a year as any to go all in.

As for D deployment, I think it would be:

Ekholm-Bouch
Nurse-Kulak
Pettersson-Klingberg/Emberson

But that is just pairings that work. Pettersson would still be playing 20+ minutes per game and likely pair with Ekholm in the final minutes of a playoff game trying to protect a lead. It’s not like he’d be playing a #5 role, he’d definitely get more minutes than Kulak.
