Purely an AHL defense swap as both players are AHL lifers from here on out.

Attard was putrid in the preseason games he played in which basically earned his ticket to the AHL for the rest of his life.

Gleason hasn’t played an NHL game in 6 years. Since his Dallas days.
Gleason had 2 really good pre-seasons in a row, I'd say last season he outplayed all 3rd pairing options we had, but we sided with vets and this season he was pretty much equal with the guys he lost a spot to, main difference is he wasn't RHD and was less comfortable playing his offside than Dermott.

Gleason is a good puck mover and has taken a good amount of the risk out of his game, things I'd knock him on are he flubs passes just a touch more than most NHL players and while he has the defensive awareness to read the play he often gives up ideal body position, more focus on tying up sticks than boxing out.

For the last few years on Flyers broadcasts they always talked about Attard having a good demeanor. He comes across as a good guy to have around.

But this year he had a bad showing in the preseason and has gone on to have 0 points in 7 games in the AHL so far, where the last two years he had high 20s-low 30s.

Flyers prob saw he needed a change of scenery and wanted to do him a favor.

Unlikely that he or Gleason will even get any callups to their NHL clubs this year, this seems like strictly AHL dude for AHL dude.

What's the scouting report on Attard? Gleason is a good puck moving D that IMO outplayed Broberg 2 pre-seasons ago but never got rewarded for it.

And preseason performance means so much. The fact neither player can crack a bad D says a lot

Kesselring couldn't get a game in with the Oilers, sometimes management lets players go without giving them a shot and the player goes on to do well.

I hate that red confirmed trade tag so much. Imagine my excitement seeing “Confirmed Trade [PHI…” in the forum preview only to click it and see this.

It’s like that CNN breaking news tonight when New York goes blue and Kentucky goes red with .000001% reporting.

Skating below average, poor decision making...7th defenseman today, trending downwards, once had the potential to be a 3rd pairing.
His skating is at least average. He's a good skater. Poor decision maker. Big shot. Has an offensive inclination.

It's a Lehigh Valley move. It looks like Emil Andrae is supplanting Zamula on Flyers 3rd pair for at least the near future. Hopefully he's done with the AHL. Attard was dropping fast on the depth chart. Bonk will be coming in late this season or next. So Attard was very expendable and Gleason balances out the left/right bias on LV's blueline.

Gleason showed really well in camp the last couple years. Probably should have made last year's team on merit. If he gets NHL minutes, he'll surprise.

Edmonton's AHL team was having to healthy scratch guys because they had too many "veteran defense". Attard doesn't count as a veteran D, Gleason did. That's pretty much the motivation for this trade. Edmonton gets rid of a veteran so they don't have to play musical chairs with their vets, and Philly moves on from a guy who is struggling.

It was a trade because Bakersfield had too many Vets in the lineup and there are rules regarding how many vets can be iced, so they were constantly healthy scratching players. So they traded Gleeson so he can play.

Kesselring couldn't get a game in with the Oilers, sometimes management lets players go without giving them a shot and the player goes on to do well.
some players also need the push of a trade to realize their potential
