my guess is because you have to give and get with these things. Bouchard's agent wouldn't want him to sign that third year because he's going to really pop offensively the next couple years so his bargaining position will be really strong after this deal. His agent likely only wanted a one year deal for the same reason, but settled for two for a bit of a bump.I love the bridge contract
but capfriendly isnt loading so I dont know his RFA status length, why not a 3 year bridge, and extension after year 2 like the smart teams do.
Petterson was always going to walk. Different scenarioBridge deals almost never work
He’s gonna get absolutely a fortune in a couple years.
Look at The Canucks, they want that stupid ass bridge deal for pettersson.
Sure it looks good right away, and then you’re screwed in a couple years
Agreed. Pettersson is more like the McDavid and Draisaitl scenario.Petterson was always going to walk. Different scenario
Part of it is that we have no cap space. We could only have the term that his cap hit allows. The one line in the sand was 2 years. We needed two years to deal with Connor Brown's contract overage. Our 2024-25 squad is already basically set and that's a big deal.I love the bridge contract

Nooo don't start because I don't want it to turn into a who's gonna leave who threadPetterson was always going to walk. Different scenario

They will have plenty of money when one of McDavid or Drai sign elsewhere.3.9 will be a steal for him the next 2 years but will be hard to keep him around beyond that with Mcdavid and Drai set for Big raises then
It's more a matter of the Oilers simply not being able to afford anything other than a bridge deal right now. This looks like the Nurse situation all over again. Smart move by Bouchard though as with the cap going up he will cash in on a huge deal after the bridge is over. Just like Nurse.
For the Oilers, it gives them a good opportunity over the next two years to try to win a Cup. After that it will get much tougher.
dont hold your breathThey will have plenty of money when one of McDavid or Drai sign elsewhere.
It was a bit of a choice. We could have found a way to ditch Foegele's 2.75 and saw what extra years that would buy. Probably a 5 year deal. It's more a matter of the Oilers simply not being able to afford anything other than a bridge deal right now.
I think they know it's going to cost them in the long-run. Bouchard's next contract will be a massive bag.
There's been this narrative for so long that McDavid is out the door and that he wished he wasn't drafted by the Oilers, etc. It's so common for even writers out east to say it's just a fact that McDavid's reaction at the draft shows this. If him signing an 8 year deal at a good number didn't snap people out of their cognitive dissonance, will both Drai and him re-signing long term do the trick? They will have plenty of money when one of McDavid or Drai sign elsewhere.
Poor mmc lost his phone or something and he's just getting dragged todayYoure not @MMC !!!
Great deal now for the Oilers, going to bite hard next contract though. They really didnt have a choice to go long term though, no cap room for this upcoming season.
Yep, especially to core players. The Oilers locked up Klefbom and Draisaitl long term on their 2nd contracts and it worked out wonderfully (would have for Klef if he didn't get injured but who could see that coming). Nurse not so much with the 2nd bridge in particular and this one with Bouchard will certainly bite them in the rear eventually but they had no choice with Bouchard so it is what it is.Bridge deals almost never work

For the Canucks, Hughes is good value but probably should have bumped up the AAV a bit on a max term instead of 6 years.
