Proposal: EDM-CHI Mega Trade (Goalie & Top-4 D)

I wouldn’t do this. Murphy sucks this year. He’s taken a step back and is a big reason Chicago sucks balls. Reichel also is red flags to me that he hasn’t been able to put it together at this level. The goalie is young and could be a player but the oilers don’t need a could be.

Aren't you like the biggest Stuart Skinner defender still around? LOL.

Hawks fan here. Value wise, it's probably spot on but I don't see that Hawks doing this. This would be the kind of trade that the Penguins would do because their cupboard is empty. Other than the 26 1st, the Hawks would be giving up assets they value more than other teams would for a bunch of meh.

They don't need to trade Soderblom, Murphy, or Reichel and they have plenty of prospects and picks and don't need middling vets or borderline NHL prospects at this point. They need top of the lineup impact players and none of these pieces are that or assets that would get them there. Donato is likely gone for a 2nd or something like that but I think they're better off keeping the others for now unless they can be packaged for a true impact player.

Thats a lot of a lot, but I'd like to think the Oilers could get higher quality elsewhere. I dont see those pieces moving Edm over the edge back into contender territory.

for those following the bouncing ball

oilers give up

1st, two 2nd, 2 top prospect for a back up goalie and a D man who is comparable to Marcuss Petterson who the pens gave up for a first and cap dumps.

So lets make it a 1st for Murphy

the rest is for Soderblom?
I wouldn't do a 1st for Murphy even with cap going back the other way. To me, he isn't as good as Petterson, so I don't see why he should command the same return. A 2nd and cap going back to even it out is probably a more fair offer. A 2nd and Arvidson for Murphy and a late pick. Not sure how much I value the goalie, as I haven't watched him enough, but if he's really just a backup, he isn't what Edmonton needs.

I still hope to do better than Murphy though, so I wouldn't do this deal yet.

I think the Hawks would benefit from the acquisition of Klingberg.

Maybe a Donato/Klingberg swap would work for both teams?
Good gawd no!

Donato has 43 points on the season so far and you want the Hawks to trade him for a player the Oilers just pulled out of the scrap pile?

We could argue about how good Murphy is in comparison to other players but at the end of the day he holds more than a 2nd round pick value to the Hawks, especially with the trade of Jones… they need some veteran leadership on the back end and that ain’t coming from Martinez and Brodie.

I wouldn't suggest a one for one, but I think Klingberg could be part of the deal. Money-wise it works out.
