Even when Ken Holland signs a player up for the league minimum he somehow still finds a way to make it a bad deal for his team. That takes a special brand of inept! Oh well you know what they say: you can never have enough non nhl caliber players, depth is important.

It takes a certain type to call this deal inept. There is literally no risk to this. He isn't likely to get games, but is an option if there are lots of injuries down the stretch. I think it's more of a reward to Malone and a miniscule dent in Katz' pocketbook but that's likely all the impact on the Oilers

You are correct that there is no risk to this, Edmonton has nothing to lose by adding another player to their roster who isn't of NHL quality. Hey, why not one more! The point is he isn't an option if there are injuries down the stretch because an option would have NHL calibre skills. This guy does not, so he's not really an option for anything but keeping a jersey warm.

Why is the GM using a contract to reward some minor league scrub anyway? Is he dating the owner's daughter? Did he find Holland's keys? Or is this alleged reward for all the good work he did in Bakersfield developing guys like Cooper Marody and Tyler Benson into household names? Come on guy, there is nothing good to say about this signing, and if there's nothing good to say about it then it's a bad deal. Holland adds a player who will not help the team, my point stands.
