Proposal: EDM-ANH

To EDM: Rakell (50% retained)

To ANH: McLeod, 2022 2nd (*this pick is potentially tied up in the Keith trade, if conditions of Keith trade are met, Ducks get 2022 3rd plus 2023 2nd).

Does that seem fair? McLeod fits the Ducks rebuild age range and gives them a 3rd liner with speed to burn; Draisaitl gets a winger with a shoot first mentality that would compliment his style well.

Pass. Look at what Calgary just paid. Rakell is better.
I agree Rakell is better (though Jarnkrok is having a better season this year), but the package is better as well. McLeod is an early 2nd rder from 2018 that is performing at or above expectation of his draft placement; the Oilers 2nd is higher than the Flames.

But to the point of another poster, probably needs to be a 2nd and 3rd, which would still be agreeable in my opinion.

I would rather have a higher/another pick then McLeod. He doesn’t do anything for me personally.

Rakell has seen his production drop over the past few years and he is not the best defensive forward but he can still score and is showing that this season.

I believe he could fetch something between 2nd+3rd (floor) and 1st @50% retention, depending on the demand for this kind of player. So the proposal is not bad at all but to simplify I would just say 2nd+3rd 2023 + Mcleod :)

Just what we need another forward . Just maybe we should look at our goalie situation before spending assets on something we don't need right now . Plus McLeod is doing well he will not be traded . He will be groomed to be the 3rd C .

If I’m the Oilers, I wouldn’t do it. Mostly because Rakell cannot play goal or D. McLoed is big, fast, effective, has shown more upside than expected, can play C, and - most importantly - is cheap. I’d move him in the right deal, certainly, but this one isn’t it.

McLeod = fodder now. Posting without a clue.

I guess McLeod simply hasn't hit the radar of non-Oiler fans.

There is no way I trade him for a rental at this point. He has grown all season and with his speed, passing and positional awareness he will be an effective NHL player for a long time.

Sorry this offended you. Struggle to see where he'd fit in the Ducks lineup currently and long term. I'd prefer Anaheim to acquire draft capital.

It's a terrible post. McLeod as fodder? C'mon man. He has been everything the Oilers have asked and then some. I personally had no idea he'd be this good. Crazy to trade him for a rental and I'd love to have Rakell on the Oilers. He is also paid peanuts.

That's great then, don't think he'd be of interest to the Ducks for a Rakell deal anyway. We're on the same page!

I would love to see the Oilers move Mcleod+ for a guy that won’t move the needle.

I don’t know what Anaheim is expecting to get for Rakell but I can’t imagine he gets more than this.

Teams only move young roster players for rentals if the young guy is blocked behind too much depth, or hasn't been able to carve out a role, which is obviously not the case here. The Oilers have plenty of other prospects who would interest the Ducks but are further from being key to their current lineup. Anaheim should focus their sights on Savoie.

Maybe a late 1st but more likely a combination of B assets, more than the Jarnkrok return but not by miles.

I'd agree. Good, young contributing players like McLeod don't get moved for UFAs. If the Oilers and Ducks ever do talk about a Rakell trade, Savoie makes sense as a target for Anaheim.

This would make the most sense. With Getzlaf retiring and Rakell being traded + Anaheim has a crap ton of cap room this off season. Anaheim needs to replace that production somewhere. But I agree McLeod isn’t the answer

Rakell to Edmonton right now is a flawed trade concept. Oilers shouldn't (and according to the GM, won't) trade 1sts or top assets for rentals. Anaheim will get a good return from a contender. These teams are just not a fit right now.
