Series Talk: ECSFs Discussion - All The Smoke Edition - Panthers Trailing 0-1

None of the articles talking about Stolarz even mention that he was probably already concussed earlier in the game and should not have been playing. They all just want to vilify Bennett while not addressing the original problem that everybody dropped the ball regarding Stolarz's first concussion - league spotters, Leafs trainers, coaches all failed him.

But it'll be easier to blame Bennett and get him suspended than to address the actual failures leading up to it which look bad on them.

Was it even a "hit"?

A "push" would be the correct word, no?

I don't know...after all, english is not my first language...
Yes, it was a push or a bump, not a hit.

If that’s how fragile the Leafs players are, time to really start hitting them, they’ll have no one left by game 4.

This video makes it even more clear that it was just a bump as Bennett took the only path he had. His elbow/arm is tucked the entire time. There’s a “follow through” at the end where Bennett’s elbow shoots forward but I think he partially loses balance when he steps on Stolarz’s stick.

By far the best angle, clearly shows that it was no biggie

As a layman, I just can't understand how a team full of professional athletes (champs no less) can go into the first game of a new series, against a heated rival, with ample time off, in the pursuit of repeating your championship and not "show up" right out of the gate.

In case you have forgotten, after the singer sings the song and you all gather at the striped, red line, the game begins and you should start playing.

The most over used cliché in hockey is, "we know they will be fired up and we have to be sharp for the first ten minutes." Here's an idea, how about we pull the goalie for the extra attacker on the opening faceoff. We seem to give up a lot of "firsties", so maybe WE can score one too.

That poor opening last night has empowered the biggest cry-babies in the NHL to bemoan at the highest level possible. When I was a kid and I would throw a tantrum and cry, my Dad would say, "knock it off or I'll give you something to cry about".

Give them something to cry about and win the series. Here's a tip, think blue and white. You just crushed the same uniforms a week ago.

Call me crazy but I strongly feel that all this animosity towards the Panthers not only wakes them up as they’ve been sleepy at several points this season including last night but also feeds into what they want and furthermore distracts the Leafs from the actual game on the ice.

It happens, sometimes the other team just come out stronger than you. One or two bounces going their way and they get the momemtum. "hockey is a momemtum game" is another cliché, but it's true. Who knows what would have happened if they didn't score on their first shot.

My fear though, like I said before, is that they might not want it as much as the Leafs. Yes they are pro athletes and want to win, but they are humans. After back to back finals and a cup, there's no way they can be as motivated as the Leafs are.
