Series Talk: ECSFs Discussion - All The Smoke Edition - Panthers Trailing 0-1

We are winning games in many ways now, a game today has been different than the next one, one game is about checking hard, the next one is about actually creating plays and so on, more importantly, the goals are coming now from everywhere, it is impossible to defend from any team that scores with any line or their defensemen, I think Tampa played really well and at times it seemed like the games were going to break in their direction.

One point I want to make is their discipline, there are better at it than the last 2 playoffs, Bennet, Tkachuk, Etc., you know the usual suspects have been very good at making sure their checks are legal, also they are more efficient at moving the puck out the zone. Another noticeable improvement has been positionally, they do not try for 50/50 pucks, they just stayed positionally and run up a player up to the attacker when the opportunity presents itself.

We have seen a lot less stretch passes being successful from Tampa, trying to make the panthers loose positioning, but Maurice has figured this out, as result we saw very little of that, as one that have watched many of Tampa games and how they score, this is their bread and butter, Stretch pass, get into the zone, leave the puck behind to the relay player , and then send the puck to Hedman or any other defensemen to top of the crease, then send it to Kucherov, they do this over and over. that is why Kucherov was so frustrated, because we had him figured out, sure, he got by a few times but he is after all, one of the best player in the NHL.

My takeaway for this playoff run is, they are playing within the structure, they are very disciplined, and they are no taking any chances, they are taking what is given to them, if the play is not there, they are happy to just keep body checking until one of those checks gives them that chance.

I think one of the bigger lessons we learned in 2023 was that you could lose the cup before round 4 even if you make it to round 4.

The team was basically dead. Could they have beaten Vegas at full strength? Honestly the answer could very well still be no. But they basically had no shot with the state the team was in.

Last year you could see them ramp it up as the rounds went along while ramping it up in spots as necessary. Think Round 2 game 2 against Boston.

What could be to our benefit this go around is the fact there is only 1 heavy team left in the East and thats Washington. If we play them, that is in round 3.
Honestly I do not want to play Washington, even if we beat them, we can be so broken up from injuries, they have copied the Panther's style of play and they are really a physical threat, I watch them playing Montreal and they were mean and forceful on their checks, Like Tkachuck couldn't play, he is just being held together with toothpicks and crazy glue. poor guy, but when he is on the ice, to make a turn, he needs more room than a Mack truck.

Getting ahead of ourselves obviously but Washington is the team that I'd hate to face the most of the remaining teams in the playoffs. They play heavy and won't be intimidated. Then you have Wilson who will eventually cross the line and injure someone. I think we'd win in a 7 game series, but we'd be really banged up.

Redou mark! Everywhere!

In the Panthers We Trust!

The Weather Man would have given you at least something closer to that, like "Chilly Today, Hot Tamale"
and these same people will carry on as they had never said nothing wrong, there is definitely a lack of respect to the Panthers that still prevails, no matter if the Panthers are still the Champions or beat Tampa in 5, way outside of their expert predictions. they rather talk about kutcherov in the last 3 minutes of game five, " in this last 3 minutes, is where Kucherov needs to shine" you guys heard that one. the lack of recognition for the Panthers is intentional and it happens all across their broadcasts and the internet.

Exactly my point, we can beat them, but at what price?, we may not have enough players for a final.

Washington fits the bill lmao

Why do we keep putting down Jones? what else do you want this guy to do? Without Ekblad, we have managed to play very well defensively, when you guys get fixated with a player, it becomes relentless and right down boring, (Exhibit A: Yandle can't Handle and Fatblad) and it just goes on forever, by the same standard Makar will be garbage player, because he has not been able to score a goal in this playoffs, I cant see us doing this well without a player like him, he is physical, he covers a lot of ice, makes great plays, nice shot, hard shot, plays a lot of minutes, by next year he will be one of our top defenseman.
Seriously I want any of you to tell, what else do you want him to do?

Win a Cup

in 2023, the team's identity came from their aggressiveness. and yeah, that was their strength but it eventually ground them down.

although the players and maurice still talk a good game, they are really picking their spots now. we seem content to rope-a-dope if our opponent goes along with it. we are so sound defensively, we can defend better for longer stretches than we could back then.

it'll be interesting to see how the next series goes strategy-wise.
This guy gets it!

I havent seen much Jones hate since the playoffs started tbh.

I watched pretty much every game, yeah, they were brutal, but let me address your point, the Habs do not have the horses to go toe to toe on the physical battle, they just dont, but we do, and that can be the difference maker, for sa short example we do not have to look too far back, Tampa went toe to toe with us on the physical battle, you know the end, we lost our beloved Ekblad and they lost Hagel, that was the end of it.

I am not even thinking of the Metro, let's take care of business in the Atlantic first.
