I wonder how much respect the Leafs are going to get in the handshake line?

I’m thinking they deserve 2 pumps per handshake this year for sure, possibly 3 because they did take the Cup champs to 7 games, although they crapped the bed as usual in game 7 here.

Yeah, 2 pumps seems fair. They’re not what they used to be, that’s for sure. The first year they made the 2nd round, I think they got 4(!) per handshake.

Matthews seems more like a 1 pump sort of guy

Gonna be tougher for everybody then. NHL with expansion but without changing the way state tax works with the cap is going to ruin the league and destroy Bettman's precious parity.

Leafs played a solid 10 minutes in the last half of the first. Nothing else. No push back. no urgency, no emotion. And it all starts with Matthews and Marner. Absolutely nothing from them. It's actually insane how little they show any sort of grit come playoff time. Look at McDavid and Draisaitl. They leave it all out on the ice come playoff time and if there's one thing you never question from them it's their work ethic. They care so much.

It's downright embarrassing. I love poking fun at McDavid and Draisaitl has much as any Canucks fan, but all rivalry fun aside, they're warriors who always come through. Hell, Draisaitl played through a pretty serious injury and lead the whole damn playoffs if I recall. You can't asked for more heart and dedication than that.

Meanwhile, what grit and heart have Matthews and Marner shown? Especially Marner who's been a damn ghost this entire series. It's downright embarrassing how their talents seem to completely evaporate when the games actually matter.

It's so odd that the TNT broadcasters are raving about Marner becoming a UFA at the age of 27 when he's been completely invisible in the biggest game of Toronto's recent history.

There are teams desperate for regular season success that will give him every penny he wants.

The Leafs and Oilers are very similar.

High scoring teams concentrating salaries on some core players. Fill in the rest of the team with support players, waiver wire picks and whatever goalie tandem they can find hoping they are good enough to complement the stars.

Oilers havent won, but they do better than the leafs in the playoffs. And they got jeckyll and hyde Skinner in net.

That's because McDavid/Draisaitl do well in the playoffs carrying the load they should. So if the other 10 forwards tank, at least those two can try to keep the goals going. Leaf stars disappear. So when the Domis, Folignos, O'Reillys whomever dont do much, the Leafs stars cant carry the torch Like McD/Dry.

But some reason Leafs management keeps signing them. AM, Nylander, Rielly signed back for big money for years..

I bet Shanahan will make a public announcement within a week that the Core 4 stays because they're such a tight knit group.. Leafs will attempt to resign Marner because he wants to remain there.

A panicking Shanahan is a sight to behold ... will probably offer Marner $15x8.
