This is really it for me. We all understand this is like the dad who says he will come see you on the weekend and you look forward to it all week and then he has to work and says next weekend.

We're all expecting him to not show up. He needs to show up

And after enough let downs standing in the driveway waiting at a pickup time that never comes, the poor kid stops even packing his overnight bag the night before

team up 2-0 wins like 85% of the time or something, right?

Lol you’re one of those “Leafs need to go 16-0 or they suck” guys

Reality is that the panthers are heavy favorites to win this series and the leafs have taken them to a game 7 at home.

If anyone could be accused of choking, it would be the panthers. Who let a heavy dog jump out to a 2-0 lead early in the series

The odds of whoever wins game 5 is like 75% isn't it?
no clue, i'll take your word for it. how's it relevant though?

i'm not even agreeing that it would necessarily be a choke, just that it's not an unfair conclusion given the stats

Against the division champs?

I really can't keep track.

Yes, the higher seeded team is the underdog. There are various reasons for that, but those are the facts.

The Panthers aren’t some snappy upstart looking to squeak by the Toronto maple leafs here lol

Never surprised the lengths people will go to spin a negative narrative around the maple leafs

what? i may understand what you're trying to imply, but it's likely totally different, and you're not articulating it clearly so i can't be sure

If you say they choked because they were up 2-0, then the Panthers would be choking by being up 3-2. If using statistical probability like you did is how you want to measure it. I disagree with the method.

yes, the if the Panthers lose, they will have choked too, but it wouldn't be as egregious as Toronto being up 2-0 and only winning 1 of the next 5

The Leafs took a 2-0 series lead and had a two-goal lead in G3. If they lose tonight, the inability to shut the door/finish off an opponent will be a more than fair part of the narrative surrounding this core whether you want to call it choking or something else. Whether that's a fair reflection on these 7 games or not is kind of immaterial because over nine years they have nothing to hang their hat on.

Why is it so important to determine which team "Chokes"? Why the melodrama?

We've arrive at game-7 of a back-and-forth series, where Toronto had the momentum before Florida took it, followed by Toronto grabbing it back again. Unless tonight is a blowout, we've move beyond 'choke'. It's now a close series where one team will "Lose" without necessarily "Choking".

How many people expected them to win the series or even to win three games?

This is HF, basically...

First...

"Leafs suck. They're going to get destroyed."

Then after their series goes seven games...

"They blew a (series lead or lead in one of the games or whatever it was) - what chokers!"

It's just annoying. Either they're not that good and losing in seven to a good team isn't something to criticize or people need to stop saying they'll get owned/lose in three before every series.

Also, FLA won the Cup last year and many considered them the favorite to repeat before the playoffs. Teams don't usually blow 3-2 series leads. If they lose tonight, does that mean they'll have choked?
