I don’t see this at all. But I don’t think he was a bad move to take him out.

I see the series this way. Forbort had the misfortune of playing in the three games where the Bs really thought they could skate, forecheck, and play back and forth hockey. After all, easy Bs win game 1. But games 2 and 3, that wasn’t cutting it.

So, much tighter game 3. Bs blow a 2 goal lead, but realize they sort of need to go into a shell, hang back, Fs way back more so, etc. It lead to more team overall D coverage with the offense completely drying up. But hey, at least they were in these low scoring games and had a chance. They had a hot goalie and thought they could ride it out. Bringing Peeke in for game 3 really added nothing. And maybe Wotherspoon should not have sat.

Games 4, 5, and 6 were all played passively by the Bs. ALL the players realized by then they needed to play a much tighter game and hope for the best. It didn’t work out.

In the end, Forbort was 1-2 in three games. Peeke was 1-3 in four games. Wotherspoon was 2-3 in five games.

So, no. The series would not have turned out any different because Forbort played a few games.
Florida scored 6 PP goals in 2 games when so-called PK specialist Forbort was in the lineup.

Well the good news is we won’t have to worry about the crappy PP, too many men on the ice time and time again, the horrible in zone play and how they could never get to e puck out…..and the lack of scoring finish…….until next October 😜🤪

The only reason Maroon was here is because of the Lucic debacle, I honestly don’t blame Sweeney for that at all, and also don’t hold any ill will towards Maroon given his age and the fact that he had back surgery just months ago.
I think he was good for the room too. The guys won 3 cups as much as people didn’t like him, his experience helps but I think he will retire as he’s too slow at this point.

I doubt anyone really expected the Bruins would win a cup this year. They beat the Leafs and most doubted they would beat the Panthers which came to fruition. The lack of finish and the poor breakouts was totally noticeable in both series. These are issues Sweeney has to fix or he should hit the road.

You have the most elite goaltending tandem in the NHL. A 50-goal scorer. Decent defense. Yes weak down the middle and short on anyone Top 6 material save JDB.

But you can easily steal a round (which they extremely luckily did). This series was ripe for the taking. Save Sway, we have more questions about top players' ability to elivate their games. A cupboard that is empty, few draft picks . . .I think Fenway said it in some manner, the future ain't exactly looking rosey.

Mngt has their work cut out for them and the last two years for me will be chalked up to missed opportunities with the goaltending we got.

On paper, the Leafs should be going into MSG next week riding high. Thanks to Keefe and injuries/illnesses, we were gifted an easy series win but couldn't just go and take that.

They played well for the fist 4-minutes last night then layed yet another home-ice ostrich egg.

"Exceded expectations" is a rationalization that rings hollow when it comes to the grind that is the NHL playoffs. You seize the moment, find that other gear, or you don't.

It turns out the Bruins were who we thought they were all along: a team with excellent goaltending, good defense, but a mediocre to average forward corps. That gets you a second round exit in today’s NHL.

For what this year was, it’s tough to be all that mad. We got some good moments from all of it — Lucic’s return home (before the terrible incident), the centennial celebration nights, the emergence of Swayman as #1, a pleasant surprise in Poitras, the post-season breakout party of Lohrei, and even a couple of nice surprises in players like Geekie and Brazeau. Hopefully guys like Beecher and Wotherspoon can build upon this year’s experience too.

But yes, it’s all too apparent the Bruins need help in their top six, especially the center position. That was never going to get fixed this year with the cap situation. Hopefully they’ll address it over the summer and come back even stronger next year.

Sweeney needs to get the priorities first. They based Zacha and Coyle as their top two centers off of three games against the panthers in last years playoffs.

I can’t help but think of the almost instant improvement when the Canucks sacked Boudreau ( a good coach) and hired Tochett . I wouldn’t be upset with a coaching change and new style .

We just fired our last coach two years ago and he went on to lead VGK to cup the following year....now we want to fire Monty lol. Maybe it's not the coach

No, they based it on the fact that they had little cap space and while not ideal for a 1-2, they'd have to make it work for at least a season

Cant agree with the "they are who we thought they were". I don't think many expect them to finish as high as they did or to go as far as they did. Some players sure, but guys like Swayman, Brazzeau, Heinen, Wortherspoon, Lorhei, Geekie are a lot more than we thought they were. On the whole I think the future is a whole lot brighter than it was to start the season.

They didn't really have much of a choice this season, but both proved you need more in the playoffs. Guessing they will bring a top 6 C in.

Some real good experience for some younger guys that should be here a long time.

They were in cap hell Lucic was supposed to be the toughness no money for a top line Center unless they made a trade ,but what would have gotten them a top line Center.

We were running on fumes, lucky bounces and incredible goaltending to extend us. Something had to give.

Marchy looked like the rest of the team....off. Felt bad for him. Played with the usual heart.
Last year of his contract is coming up. Next year might be the last.

McAvoy is getting slammed here. Not surprised. "He's a bum!Trade him! Burn his house down. Piss and shite on him!!!!"
Sorry. Still a fan. Dude is logging far too many minutes though plus he is heavily targeted and takes his lumps more than anyone.

This team is going to look plenty different in the next year or so.

The thing that baffled me is the hesitation to shoot throughout this team. A serious adjustment was needed but never materialized.

It isn't going to happen, but I say clean sweep Sweeney gone Neely gone Montgomery definitely gone. I really worry where the team is headed. The worser spoon and Brazil are not very good the bottom of the rosters headed n o n playoff quality. At least get rid Montgomery seven too many men on the ice penalties and other coaching mistakes is on the verge of ridiculous.

I agree the competition for spots should become fiercer. But there'll likely be a few guys in the mix that they'll have some concerns over as to how much they can get out of them on account either of being young (Poitras and Lysell) or, in sporting terms, old (Marchand). Having a Heinen who can slot into various roles and do a good job with no fuss would be handy.

Monty likes him, I don't think that can be doubted. Coaches like dependable and if nothing else Danton is that. Monty had a hand in bringing him back to Boston, used him in various capacities throughout the season, then dressed him in every game for which he was fit in the playoffs. Yes the Bruins didn't have great forward depth but he didn't absolutely have to play him, nor to give him a very solid 15 mins TOI per game (incidentally almost 2 mins more per game than Frederic). All the signs there of a player that is valued, at least to some extent.

I think going forwards it partly depends on what Heinen is after. If he wants to maximize his earnings and guarantee himself a game every night, he's almost certainly going to have to look elsewhere. But if he's not really about the money and he's willing to sign cheap while knowing that he's going to be battling for a spot against however many other guys, then I still see a place for him in Boston. I think at the very least he and Sweeney are going to have a conversation. How that pans out, I won't hazard to guess.

Disappointing, but possible.

I was lukewarm about Monty’s return, but given the above I want a new guy who will bring in a couple of new JAG’s.
