[shadow=black]Did You Know?[/shadow]
 • This is the fourth time in the past seven years the Penguins and Senators will meet in the playoffs, but the first time it happens past the opening round of the playoffs. For the Penguins this has been topped only by the Washington Senators (5 in 6 years and 7 in 11) and for the Senators only by the Toronto Maple Leafs (4 in 5).
 • This match-up makes the Penguins tied as the most common opponent in the playoffs for the Senators along with the Buffalo Sabres (1996-97, 1998-99, 2005-06, & 2006-07) and Toronto Maple Leafs (1999-2002, 2003-04). For the Penguins this moves the Senators into a tie with Boston and the NY Islanders for 4th most frequent playoff opponent with 4 each; only Washington (8), Philadelphia (6), & New Jersey (5) have been more frequent foes.
 • When the Penguins franchise was the same age as the current Ottawa Senators their most common playoff foe was the St. Louis Blues (3).
 • The first trade between the Penguins and Senators was completed on April 7, 1995 when the Penguins sent Martin Straka to Ottawa for Norm MacIver and Troy Murray. Straka played 49 games for the Senators before having brief appearances with the Islanders and Panthers before returning to Pittsburgh in 1997 as a free agent.
 • The original Ottawa Senators last won the Stanley Cup in 1926-27, which was the 2nd season in the NHL for the Pittsburgh Pirates.
 • The most veteran playoff performer for the Ottawa Senators is Sergei Gonchar, with 130 NHL playoff games under his belt - 60 for the Penguins and 12 for the Senators (along with 7 for the Bruins and 51 for the Capitals).
 • The most veteran playoff performer for the Pittsburgh Penguins is Chris Kunitz with 90 NHL playoff games (55 for the Penguins; 35 for the Ducks).
 • Craig Anderson turns 32 on May 21st, the day prior to Game 4 of this series. Entering these playoffs Anderson and Vokoun, who will combine for a combined 68 years old, entered these NHL playoffs with a combined 25 playoff games between the two. This is both goalie's first trip out of the first round.
 • Entering these playoffs Marc-André Fleury had 43 playoff victories, 14 more than the next highest remaining goaltender in these playoffs (Lundqvist with 29). Fleury's 43 wins entering these playoffs was 2nd most amongst all active goalies in the NHL behind only Martin Brodeur's 113. If Tomáš Vokoun starts for the Penguins then Brodeur alone will have more wins than all goalies remaining had entering these playoffs (Lundqvist (29), Niemi (25), Quick (20), Howard (13), Holtby (7), Anderson (5), Crawford (5), & Vokoun (3) combined for 107 playoff wins between them. Of course this is the second round so now Fleury has merely 12 more wins than Lundqvist and that octuplet of goalies has 137 wins between them now.
 • Marc-André Fleury and Tomáš Vokoun became the first goalie tandem to post shutouts in the same playoff series since Chico Resch and Billy Smith did so for the 1979 New York Islanders.
 • Tomáš Vokoun's use of the #92 this season is the highest number ever worn by a goaltender in the NHL.
 • In 20 regular season games against the Senators Tyler Kennedy has 11 goals (tied for the most against any team, shared with the Flyers which took 30 games). Despite this Kennedy has 0 goals in 8 playoff games against the Senators and only 2 points.
 • Sidney Crosby's lowest goals and points per game ratio against Eastern Conference teams is against the Senators - scoring only 6 goals and 25 points in 24 regular season meetings...despite that he has 9 goals and 27 points in 14 career playoff games against the Senators.
 • The Penguins now hold a 156-133 record in the playoffs with a series record of 29-24. The Ottawa Senators hold a playoff record of 59-63 and a series record of 9-13.
 • Ottawa's win in the first round was their first series win in the playoffs since defeating the Buffalo Sabres in the 2007 Eastern Conference Finals. Pittsburgh's win was their first since the 2010 Eastern Conference Quarterfinals against the Ottawa Senators.
 • Brooks Orpik's game-and-series-winning goal against the Islanders on Saturday was not only his first playoff goal (in his 78th playoff game), it was his first career game-winning goal (in 709 career games across regular season and playoffs). For comparison's sake 3 of Beau Bennett's 4 career goals have been game-winners.
 • Sorry for the half-assed retread of a YouTube-only theme, I used Daft Punk for a theme a couple/few years ago and I really hate re-using themes, but given the short-notice nature of the GDT and the fact that Random Access Memories is streaming on iTunes right now a week before release I figured it was only appropriate...also it allows me to slack on the DYK stuff since it's already been done!
 • Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo comprise the duo of Daft Punk. Their first band was formed in 1987 along with Laurent Brancowitz and was named after a Beach Boys song, Darlin'. Darlin's existence was brief and one review dubbed one of their two live shows as "a daft punky thrash". The review gave the duo their next name, while Brancowitz left to join another little band that would go nowhere - Phoenix.

The optimist in me notices that in 2 out of their 3 home games, the Pens absolutely blew the Islanders out, and played lights out hockey on both ends of the rink.

Hopefully they can bring such a performance Tuesday night, if so the Sens are going to have their hands full.

I have tickets to game one and plan to be unable to talk Wednesday from yelling so loudly and often during the game.

Just remember, what you hear on the television does not reflect what the players hear on the ice. My experience is that for some reason it does not translate.

Oh yeah, I will be sure to start a Woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! chant just for Big.

No problem. Is it just me but wouldnt a kennedy-jokinen/vitale-bennett be a pretty cool fourth line? Creativity, speed, puck posession(faceoffs).

I get going with the same lineup after a W, but if there is an opportunity for a tweak, by all means do it! I'd love to see that but Beau is never going to see the ice again this year because of the best PKer in the NHL, Craig Adams.

A 4th of..
Bennett-Vitale-Jokinen..
would be awesome to me. TK served his purpose, gave us a good jump in game 5. He can be substituted again later in the series if need be.

Hell at this point now that I think about it, Jokinen on the 3rd and Sutter on the 4th could work too. Jok is REALLY getting the shaft, as I think some people are forgetting he can play wing too.

The homer in me feels like Malkin is gonna break out. But its probably just what I hope will happen :naughty:
Hopefully we put in a full game effort and get off to a great start.

Great effort by the last minute GDT. The schedule kind of screwed us so huge props here. I should be out for most of the day. I'll be attending tonight as well. Hopefully some live updates. :yo:

New series. New team. Much better D needed. Ottawa have better finishers than the Islanders and they'll punish with that.

Hopefully we'll take a 1-0 lead tonight.

I would like to see Niskanen scratched and replace him with Despres. Niskanen was really bad against the Islanders, while Despres was good the last 2 games. It's not like Niskanen handles physical play any better than Despres either.

I don't want to be "that guy" and post in the Ottawa forum refuting stuff, but for some reason Sens fans are under the impression that: a) the Pens are seriously banged up; and b) Joe Vitale was one of the Pens' worst players this season.

On point A, I don't get it. The Pens are as healthy as they've been in years. Crosby is wearing the jaw protector thing but it's not affecting his play whatsoever. Malkin's shoulder is probably bothering him but it's not stopping him from racking up points. Neal is healthy. Letang is healthy. Orpik is healthy. Martin is healthy. We have zero players scratched due to injury right now. Like I said, I don't get it.

On point B....I don't even know what to say about that. We call him Joe Victory for a reason.

**** those guys twice, this just got personal. Joe Vitale has been the best 4th liner on the team. He's one of three reasons the Penguins aren't golfing right now.
