I put it on pause and go have an intermission smoke. I’ll refrain from ragging on them all, but it’s all pretty useless stuff. Besides highlights of other games or any injury updates from the ongoing game, it’s easily skipped. Have a couple more puffs and then I can also skip past the commercials when the game resumes. Winner Winner.

They all suck. Everyone tries to replicate the NBA TNT crew, but it doesn't work. I just turn the volume down and put on the Panthers radio network

Most of the time the paneling saying "The Leafs are playing well" or "doing good things" is seen as homer takes. Meanwhile it is ignored when they lose the same panels are roasting the shit out of them and their players.

Eh that's a funny way of saying "bring in the pacifiers and rub the fans' backs" like immediately after the last game, but anyone complaining about the obvious bias towards the leafs just doesn't understand basic economics. They're the largest market in the country, so yeah they're going to hear sweet nothings on the regular.

Well, a few weeks ago MLSE announced a 30% increase on some ticket prices for next year. Pretty sure that is slightly higher than the current inflation rate. I know a family who has had tickets for 30 years who can simply no longer afford to front the cost so they are giving them up. Those tickets will likely go to a corp who hands them over to their clients who likely don't really care.

I was at a few games over the last few weeks. Sat beside four business guys from London England one game. Got tickets from the company they were here to see. They had zero clue what was going on. The next week, I sat beside two guys from the mid-west in the States. Again, no clue. Sad, but it is what it is.

Well let's see we have a Matthews is over rated thread on this and the NHL forum, this is the only series on part 2 with 90% of the comments in the last 5 days coming from non Leaf fans piling on.

You guys can't get enough of the Leafs so why would they not run them front page? Easiest money ever. When they win, Leaf fans eat it up. When they lose, people like yourself do.

Chicken or the egg a bit here? If the Leafs weren’t shoved in their face every time they turn something on, would the hate become so fervent?

I can see someone start out pretty ambivalent and eventually they’re in full on F the Leafs! mode

I mean, not every loss is a referendum like social media wants it to be. That is the most annoying part of being a fan online. Losses happen.

When the team really deserves it, the panel roasts them. Shows like overdrive who are mostly Leaf fans, tear a strip off of them when they deserve it. Guys like Steve Dangle rips them apart when they deserve it.

The real problem is, at least how it feels as a Leafs fan, the only acceptable way for a Leafs fan to cheer for their team is to be muted and hate the team and expecting them to blow it. It is not acceptable to say you think they can win a game, a series, a cup. Anything less than hating on the Leafs is considered being a homer.

Same for me. I took two and a half years in high school (for the spring term of my senior year my French teacher recommended that I take third year French in addition to second year French) and I spoke it well enough to get by in France that summer, but that was long ago and I've forgotten most of it.

It's plenty loud in the playoffs, but there is no question it doesn't reach Montreal level. I've always felt it's because there is an element of "Euro sports fan obsession" (in a good way) in Montreal that doesn't exist in any Canadian or US city.

Edmonton gets just as loud and crazy as MTL during the playoffs.

I’m just speaking in terms of the national broadcast/coverage- stuff that pisses off fans of other teams because there’s minuscule coverage there compared to the leafs. People like to complain, though.

I would never give Steve Dangle a click, and have no idea what the guys on overdrive say- I can only imagine it’s designed to pit opposing ideas against each other under the guise of “debate”, when really they’re not much different than your average poster on here in terms of substance and insight.

Sens radio is insufferable to me and I swore off that shit years ago. Can only imagine the hardcore leaf stuff is for the hardcore masochists.

I've never been to a game in Edmonton but it definitely sounds like a very loud building. Of all the NHL buildings I have been in for a game, Montreal is hands down the loudest I've experienced

You leave out the part where 90% of the comments are in response to claims AM is some kind of defensive savant. Don't get me wrong, he's a strong defensive player, nice timely take aways, strong on boards. Absoletly a threat with the puck. He isn't tilting the ice though. That's the argument being made. No need to move the goal posts.
