This has been the case for a number of players over the years. One would hope the evolution of the sport would occur and the growth would as well.

I remember when the MLS entered North America and there was extreme skepticism that the sport would catch on. In the U.S and Canada it was not very popular but soccer is now the 4th most popular sport in the U.S, surpassing hockey.


Check out this stat illustrating hockeys decline in 2023 data, it's become a regional sport now:

In 2023, an average of 4.59 million Americans watched the Stanley Cup Finals, an NHL championship series. That was of course with Florida and Vegas.

Approc. 5.8 million, on average, watched the Stanley Cup in 2013.

Good point but bad example though. Who would watch desert team vs swamp team except some hardcore hockey fans?

Carolina? They're the biggest pretenders every playoffs. That's why Rantanen didn't want to play for them.

Whoever wins Game 7 demolishes Carolina in 5 games...maybe 6 if Carolina gets some breaks. Not even a contest. Carolina just doesn't have the firepower to get to the cup final. Carolina was barely tested in the first 2 rounds.

Both of these teams would beat Carolina.
