I'm not sure what you're talking about. I started watching hockey in the mid-1970s. There have always been fans complaining about how dirty a particular team is, even in the 70s and 80s when it was commonplace in the game. Then those same fans will defend their own team's players when others argue they are ditry players. It's just standard stuff. It's like whining about certain teams diving or faking injuries or complaining to refs...whatever, it's all the same. I think it's all irrelevant.

Actually that's invented narrative, by you. Fans have called out the plays that are dirty. Florida was hated before the series started because they've been doing the same thing for several years and generally the exact same players over and over again. They also put the cherry on top by acquiring possibly the player that most epitomizes said type of play for a solid decade.

Yes, they’ve certainly had some instances where they have crossed the line.

Well, one day a team, perhaps the Panthers but it could be another, where a player who has a history of head shots; will do something to a player that puts him out for a year, A savvy law firm will call that injured player and ask to represent them in a major class action lawsuit against the league and executives.

They will present to the court multiple instances in which the league did not punish a player for their hits to another players head. Maybe some cretin who dropped a player on their head during the playoffs which caused him to leave the series, or maybe an unsuspecting punch to someones face as they skated by etc.

The league is going to have their NFL moment at that point and it won't be due to their own benevolent willingness, clearly.

I don't think the league treats any one team differently from another. If anything, the league would inherently want to favour teams like Toronto, NYR, Chicago, Dallas, etc. - big TV and merchandising markets.

Leafs just need to play the game right, like men. Hard, finish their checks, play the game to win not become part of the circus. Pushback against the little weasels who wouldnt dare do that to a man on the streets.

It is up to the league to actually do their jobs and be a league rather than some backwater cult. Thus, set the bar for what is allowed and not allowed.

Whoever the next Commissioner of the NHL is had better embrace the safety of player far better than what is happening today. I've been outspoken about dirty play for many years. I love heavy, hard hockey, and I understand a teams need to create a deterrent.

This deterrent is supposed to be the leagues job. It's not 1995 but they are operating as if the league has been frozen in time. They are allowing players to make a mockery of the sport. It's a circus with too many clowns in abundant supply.
