It started with Hagel hitting Barkov, then Florida decided to take runs at him. Which, if you saw your #1 center take a cheap shot, I'm sure most of your fanbase would want payback too.

I don't know how many had the avatar of that hit. I doubt it was more than 1.

I can't comment on exact intent of people I don't know. But being around other FL fans, a lot is shit talking, in jest or just being silly. No one wants Bennett, or Tkachuk to focus on throwing a stupid hit to injury players.
We don't run a pool on who they will injure the next game or throw parties to celebrate a questionable hit.

Fanbase #1 gets upset and go overboard, and then fnabase #2 responds back, sometimes to troll.

I'm going to expect a fanbase that saw their player get hurt to react a certain way and I'm going to expect the fanbase of the "hittee" to act another way. Unless it's so blatantly obvious like Raffi Torres/Bertuzzi.
Florida fans will defend Bennett to a certain degree cause he plays for the team we root for. Just like you defended Reaves hit on Nurse, even if you don't like players to get hurt.

And they have. Ekblad threw a stupid hit on Hagel with his forearm too high, deserved those two games. Mikkola had that dumb hit on ZG, and got 5 and the Game misconduct. Deserved.

Bennett plays a fine line between hard hits and dirty.

No one had an issue with his hit on Slavin two years ago. Pretty sure it was universally praised as a nice hard hit, even though Slavin definitely got a concussion from it.

This isn't Elementary school. There are always teams and players in every sport that push the "dirty/ physical" envelope. That's Panthers M.O. Either the Leafs deal with it or they will lose.
