I love Berube in the scrums, he's all business, calm "there a really good team, we're a really good team too". Doesn't seem fazed, love the energy. It's some different from high strung Keefe, there's no doubt he's an upgrade behind the bench, you can't replicate a guy who's been there.

Key to the Series for the Leafs:
Auston & Mitch don't let Barkov shut them down - I hear he's kind of good at that - then this series is absolutely winnable.

But if those two don't step and deliver, Toronto will be done quickly.

Key to the Series for the Kitties:
Don't give the Toronto top 6 time and space. Bob, Barkov & Tkachuk do their thing.

That's more or less how I remember it too.

I do wonder / hope that them being heavy underdogs here actually works in their favor. No time to take anyone lightly - back to back finalists, and current cup champs; be on your heels, ready to go, and let's make something happen.

They play better on their tippy toes and when they have something the prove. No guarantee of success but that’s the minimum buy in needed to get into the series. From there you need all hands on deck, some good luck for Toronto, some bad luck and health issues for Florida and see how the chaos unfolds.

The Panthers are one of the most relentless teams on the forecheck, and one of the cleanest teams on the breakout and with their set plays up the ice.

The Leafs really struggle against hard forechecks, and they get into a lot of trouble with their breakouts when that happens.

That's going to be a huge part of this series.

Game 1 means so much more for this team than it does for Florida. At a minimum, the Leafs need to show tonight that they actually believe they can beat them, and are not intimidated by them.

I guess I am not worried either, but at the same time I would like to see them win more than 1 round. I am tired of Florida being on top. If we win this round, I think Washington or Carolina are very beatable. There is a great opportunity here. They need to show that they have that extra gear that it takes to be SC winners.
Thinking back on our two Conference finals appearnaces, I think I already said this.

You need to have the hot goalie steeling games or you are f***ed. No matter how good the rest of the team is.

Is Bobrovsky playing out of his mind? Stolarz has been very good IMO.

We need him to get to some other level GOD mode. We need our D to be work horses.

We need to watch this series and just hope for the best. Other Leafs fans in my real life, I just say (especially the young fans) shut the f*** up and watch the games. Don't go boasting, it will only end badly for you.

Let's go! This will be a war for sure.

Would say very but we’ve been winning so why complain he has a lot he can improve on and a lot of room to improve

This fanbase's obsession with media scrums is weird... every year, the complaints and praise about what players/coaches/whoever says is weird.

Everyone keeps saying this, but does any team actually do well against hard forechecks?

Leafs are actually one of the best teams at dealing with heavy forechecks. All 6 dmen Leafs have are great at moving the play through a forecheck.

This statement that Leafs struggle against hard forechecks is so false and just based off previous years dmen.

Our D is not particularly mobile or high-skilled, I would assume they don't do well against the forecheck relative to other teams, but I guess we will see.

Which teams have heavy forecheck that the Leafs have done well against? Genuine question, because last Florida game they looked like a PeeWee team.

Sure, but the Leafs are not as good as others at dealing with it.

The good news is that we would've got that last series against them to 6-7 games if Bobrovski didn't play like prime Dominic Hasek in that series, the bad news is it's roughly that same Florida team plus Brad Marchand and Seth Jones.

Hopefully Bobrovski plays human and Stolarz plays like prime Hasek and we got a good shot

Montour was big for them, he's gone.

Duclair had some timely moments.

I feel like:
Montour > Jones
Marchand > Duclair

Feels like virtually the same level of team.

From what the stats said apparently Seth Jones did an impeccable job shutting down Tampa's top line. Could be a much more difficult challenge for our star players than perceived.

The last game we played against Florida in the regular season they certainly gave us issues with their forecheck.

The top players all had good play-driving stats, just bad conversion.

I do think that Jones is underrated though, so kind of agree.

That's the trap of Florida. Barkov can scratch out your top line and they're a 4 line deep team in the postseason so they don't care if Barkov can score or not. The only guy I've seen make Barkov look bad in the playoffs over the last couple years has been McDavid in last year's finals.

Panthers really are just miserable to play against.

I don’t think leafs struggle with forechecks, it’s just their wingers bolt to the blue line instead of staying closer for shorter passes. So it makes it hard for the defenseman to make that first pass, they just need to be closer in the zone

LFG!!!!!! I got Leafs in 7 but let’s start in time. Play hard, don’t play scared, go after it.

Panthers don’t want to go run and gun. People keep saying Florida is this super deep team but yet nobody ever pushes them out of their comfort zone. Leafs have the better top end talent and if Matthews and Marner can go to the next level and push the pace we can win this series. If we’re just going to dip our toes in and feel our way through we’re playing right into Florida’s style. Panthers want to muddy things up, slow the game down, scrums every whistle. Dump and chance. Their whole team is based around that.

Look what McDavid did to Barkov, made him look ordinary, the speed and pace of overwhelmed the Panthers. They almost blew a 3-0 series lead. Leafs gotta push the pace and pound them
