BTW - the answer for all-time traitor is Scott Gomez.

He did kind of numb the hatred by coming back. But man I wanted to metaphorically sous vide his stupid face that first playoffs.

edit: shoutout @benedict gomez. wherever you may be... shouting at the tv

I hated bringing him back and his snarky "I'll see you in Newark" promo video before we left the Meadowlands annoyed me even more after the fact.

I’m trying really hard to muster up optimism but man that lineup objectively hardly looks like anything but first round fodder.

I still say Holik, dude basically just took an extra million per year more to go across the river, to a situation that was never going to be optimal for him. Gomez I’m not even sure how much we bothered to try to keep him in comparison, f*** Lou almost let ELIAS go across the river. The only reason Gomez stings worse is he got one over on us unlike almost everyone else that went to the dark side.

Elias would've been the worst if it actually happened. Holik and Gomez had personalities you could hate for signing with the Rags, Patty was a bit goofy and likable guy. Gomez also sucked because he shoved it to us the following year in the playoffs in a rout series.

Special teams will have to continue being top 5 for them to have a chance. And win the goalie battle
I mean I get it, I know what has to happen for the devils to win.

Let’s put it this way. If I’m a Canes fan and they lose to this lineup…I’d be beyond f***ing furious.

Apologies if already answered, will msg/Gotham carry the games as well as the national counterparts?

To add into the whole thing about vibes right now, I don't really see the use in going full doomer at the moment: absolutely none of us have been thrilled with the way this team's played in the second half of the year, especially after coming into this season with high hopes and watching them romp from October through December, but we've now had months to make peace with that reality, plus the reality of the injuries they've dealt with along the way.

I just have too many memories circa 2004-2010 of the Devils going into the first and occasionally the second round as the on-paper favorite, only to watch them meekly bow out in five/in a "gentlemen's sweep" (you know the kind: lose the first two, win one, lose the rest). Even in 2012 I wouldn't have really called them underdogs, not when they had over 100 points and got to play a Panthers team that was only the 3-seed because they won the old Southeast.

There'll be work to keep doing this offseason to build a team capable of rolling out four effective lines, making sure the young defensemen get to keep growing, etc., but for right now? I hate to use the phrase "just happy to be here", but it's nice having meaningful games to look forward to after seeing these guys pretty much locked into the M3-seed for weeks upon weeks now. Canes are prone to inconsistency, let's see if they catch them at the right time.

Why?

I do think the matchup is very close actually.

I think our defense is on par with theirs

and our goaltending is better...

I think our top end scoring is actually better than theirs even without Jack...

Bratt 88, Hischier 69, Meier 53

Aho 74, Jarvis 67, Necas 54

Carolina is deeper though....but I wouldn't dismiss our depth like Noesen, Mercer, Palat, Haula, Cotter and Glass being able to come through for a series.

On paper I don't think these teams are far off from each other at all.

Not exactly a high powered lineup, especially considering Necas is gone. I’m expecting some very ugly low event games.

I'd say both Timo and Dougie.

TImo can win it for us.
Dougie can both help win and lose it for us if he's not up to speed. Canes gonna be pushing the stretch pass on his side I bet.

To me it's undoubtedly our goaltending. If they give up any softies we are in trouble. It's literally the only area of the game I think we could have a significant advantage. That said, I don't really have confidence in it right now.

Let's hope they can flip the switch after all these piss poor games. Personally I don't think it works like that but I have my fingers crossed🤞
