I was gonna say, you already did this theme earlier in the year didn’t you?

Feels like a lifetime ago.

At any rate

Yeah a GDT from early March when we had that long road trip.

I have no idea what point of yours I've proved - the fact that you even read the main board at all this year speaks to my point and not yours, I've maybe been there twice in a decade of posting here - but you think the coach is going to be the difference this year?

I just cannot imagine caring about this, but I also don't care if Hynes wins a Stanley Cup or whatever. Coaches are fungible, they're rarely the difference, and I'm certainly not going to be upset that someone who could've theoretically been coaching us is going to win a playoff round this year. That's true every year - probably someone who will be a head coach of the Devils in the future will win a playoff round this season, and someone who has been a Devils coach will win a playoff round.
The coach is certainly not going to be a difference this year but you just need to apply common sense in how media works, failing that you don’t have to look on any message board besides ours to know it’ll be a talking point (erroneously or not) with all the back and forth here over who we should hire this offseason just like it was on the other end when Pete won a playoff series against the Panthers after being fired by them.

So because I lurk like three times a year and haven’t actually posted there or looked at a Leafs thread in forever I’m getting my talking points from the main board? Again enough with the blind generalizations

If NJ can control the front of thr net and restrain the Canes sticks so they can’t easily tip shots from the point and weird angles they have a chance to stay close. If the Canes send a bunch of soft shots at Markstrom and he can see them and they don’t change direction it will make his job much easier. Conversely NJ needs to pummel Andersen. And the other Canes need to be challenged physically. In the first game I’d play MacDemrid and every whistle I’d have him on the ice calling out the Canes bench and insulting their manhood when they don’t fight him. If the score isn’t tied with 1 second left I’m having him brain Slavin and if he gets a two minute minor at that point who cares. Now we all know that won’t happen but it should if NJ wants to win. They are unlikely to beat the Canes by playing like gentlemen.

You would think after almost a full decade of missing the playoffs people wouldn't be so miserable about this upcoming series before game 1 even happens lol

Series is going to be a toss up, all they gotta do is come back home for game 3 with the series at 1-1.
I would take a 1-1 split after the the first 2 games on the road but they have to do more then just that ti win this thing.

They were down to 2 to 0 to the Rags and completely turned things around after that with the goalie change and whatnot.

Honesty if we bring our “A” game and limit silly mistakes we’re in good shape to split the first two road games.
I agree, but the problem is that this recent stretch has been the single worst one for stupid defensive zone turnovers all season. It's possible to flip the switch come playoff time, but it's hard.

lol the NHLs official playoff video on YouTube features the devils for……LITERALLY a second.
ESPN did an article about some of the playoff teams.

When I saw “some” I thought it would be 3-5 teams….it was 12 teams. they literally did almost everyone but then felt the last 4 would just be too much work. Devils didn’t make the list.

Of course but a 1-1 split is an absolute must for me. Coming back from 0-2 statistically is like 12.3% chance of winning. After we came back in that series vs the Rangers to win. 10 of the 11 series after that with teams going down 0-2 lost the series.

You'd think Devils homer Wysh would have lobbied for his team, but he's one of the doomer crowd.

it was more about them getting back to their game. Devils tried to play physical in games 1 and 2 and deferred a lot of puck possession to finish a check.

Love what Schmid did but besides game 3 he didn’t have much to do. Devils dominated game 3 OT onward.

Devils are +230 odds to win the series. Only team in the NHL with worse odds are the Canadians, only barely. 3 of the 4 wild card teams are seen as more likely to win their series than we are.

There is no definition of “toss up” where your statement is true.

if the devils dont get the first goal it could get ugly down there quickly. scoring first doesnt mean they will win but it will at least mean they stay mentally in the game longer.

marky playoff mvp loading

does a "deep" playoff run make quinn want to join here sooner then later? deep imo taking 2nd round to 6-7 games

Agreed. Dillon-anyone is always a problem because Dillon is hard to play with.

Since Dillon has to play the softest minutes then getting Hamilton with him is the best of bad options; hopefully letting Hamilton control the soft minutes and not over working Hamilton due to PP and PK time.

The reason that pairing is so bad though is because Dougie plays offensively, while Dillon does who the f*** knows what, and Dougie can't get back in time fast enough. The other d are much better options for that. Or...just have Dougie not play so offensively, I guess? ORRRRRRRRRRRR tell Dillon to stop being a dumbass. That would help. I get a stroke whenever I see him sliding up into the slot, or directly behind the net (in the offensive zone). Like why?
