Canes have a very mid record down the stretch, they're a big yawn (as usual) as far as anything goes. No reason to fear these perennial frauds, they can eat a meth filled dick.

I am genuinely curious how this series will go because I think it will be a hard fought series.

My biggest concern going in is the offensive depth. Defense and goaltending are strong and I think they can go toe-to-toe with Carolina there. This team is going to need Hischier, Bratt, and Meier to have good series and a couple of depth guys to step up, especially offensively.

It’s going to be tough to generate offense against Carolina at home with Jordan Staal getting matched up against a Devils top line and hoping our second and third lines win their matchup against an Aho or Svechnikov line. Carolina also has an elite PK so it’s hard to count on that being a difference maker.

We’re going to have to win some gritty games and we’re going to need some huge performances by depth players. Feel like this series is going to tell us a lot about some of the depth players on this roster.

My biggest concern is goaltending. Canes are not a good team on paper. Vanaceck style goaltending again will get them buried fast.

I thought we had a legit advantage over them two years ago and we got shat on.

This year I don't think we have a legit advantage over them, but I sure hope we shat on them

f*** the Canes

really? it was clear they were going to get run over. They had trouble handling a heavy forecheck all season (and ruff could never fix it). They also had trouble handling teams who were very structured defensively all season (and ruff could never fix it).

The goaltending part is obvious, but we need depth scoring if we're going to pull this out. It can't just be Bratt/Hischier/Meier up front. We got pummeled by a slug like Jordan freaking Martinook when we played them two years ago, we need our own version of that.

To be fair, he didn't do anything special. The goalies just couldn't stop anything.

Correct. I would have said the said the same thing about a month ago as well. Looked dicey for a bit when Jack went down (and even before) but they did just enough to hold that #3 seed.

Now the season starts
The funny thing is even though the matchup with the Rangers two years ago seemed preordained for much of the season as well we did have a chance going into the last game to get the top seed so we were kinda sorta playing it out. I'm sure there'll be some energy tomorrow given the team's flat game Monday, the fact the pressure's off now that they're in the playoffs and plus everyone'll want to put their best foot forward with all the off-ice emotion involved in the game on both sides anyway.

The last three games though, I'm certainly not bothering to watch the next two after tomorrow. I will be at the regular season home finale Wednesday but they've been doing **** all for Fan Appreciation Night lately so next year this might not be a must-attend game. It'll probably be like a preseason game where I go for a little while just to see what kind of promos they have, then leave during an intermission if there's nothing worth staying for.

PK just said on the 1st intermission of the Hurricanes/Capitals game that he think we have the advantage and is picking us in 6 or 7, because he think the Canes will have a hard time scoring and their power play is a weakness. And he likes Markstrom.

Pk diggin into Carolina saying they don’t have the depth that everyone thinks they have

He really isnt wrong. They play a really strong 5v5 system, but their scoring depth isnt good, would argue its worse then when we played them last. Their goaltending stinks. Their PP stinks.

They are a team begging to be goalied right out of the playoffs

PK had his power rankings for playoff teams in the East. I just missed what he was saying but I think he had us at #5 of the 8 teams.
My head says we get shit pumped in 5 games but my heart says that if we play perfect hockey and get the goaltending , we can make a series out of it.
5 on 5 though scares me.

Choose violence. In the NHL playoffs it's always the correct answer. If MacDermid wasn't such a passive player he could turn the series in NJ's favor. Rip Aho's helmet off on his first shift in game one and smash his head against the boards over and over until Aho passes out. Sure, NJ would have to kill a 2 minute minor but no Aho for the whole series would hurt Carolina. And what are they gonna do, fight him?

This is a face that needs to be introduced to a stanchion as violently as possible.

Most of thst 5v5 shot totals are soft perimeter stuff which we should be able to handle defensively.

The Devils need to be able to tie up the Canes sticks in front so the Canes can’t tip and deflect those long shots. If they break all the Canes arms and hands and fingers that will also help

That crappy Isles team a year or two ago pushed the Canes to 6 games.

Anything can happen

I really don’t think the Canes goaltending stinks as bad as everyone thinks. They’re not stealing the series but they are both perfectly fine. They both are in the green for goals saved above average. I would very well be happy to be wrong though.
Kochetkov’s numbers are decent. Andersen’s are really good, but he can’t be trusted for health reasons.
