I feel like those are both great examples of guys who are "worse players" but better "4th liners" compared to guys like Jarnkrok/Holmberg.

It's kind of weird.

I hate Cousins, but it's undeniable that he's a pest that kicks every hornet's nest.

And Stenlund never scores, but he's enormous and plays a responsible heavy game that just fits so well on a 4th line.



You'd never want to elevate either to the Top-6 over Calle or Holmberg...but i guess that's where the Leafs "depth" comes across kind of weird to me. Even though i like both of them and they stand out as good middle-6 players.

I'd take both over the Leafs you mention. Stenner is great on the PK and slots in wherever effectively, when needed, and Cousins has had success on a second line. For example, last year when the Leafs were eliminated, Cousins was on the second line and scored the elimination goal. Stenner's game isn't so much size, but faceoffs, commitment to defense, and, like Cousins, winning battles for the puck. Having said that, putting any of them in the middle six as opposed to bottom six doesn't make for a great team.

I don’t think people realize how much responsibility McAvoy has. With Zacha now demoted to wing, the Bruins top line center was Seattles 4th line center last year and was non-tendered.
