In public school, you have to complete a level II foreign language to graduate.
I took French I in the 7th, 8th, 9th and 9th grade bc I love hockey and thus Canada.
Failed very time.
Guidance counselor after sophmore year suggests I try Spanish.
My high school also sort of required two years of a foreign language in order to graduate. Actually kind of not really… now that I think about it, that was the entry requirement for state universities in Arizona instead. You could graduate without taking a foreign language, then get around that requirement and go directly to an in-state university anyway with certain minimum scores on either the SAT or ACT. Alternately you could go the community college route and then transfer after two years.
I did the ACT and otherwise bare minimum, but I did take three years of French anyway. I learned enough to get by in France the summer after graduating.
Now I’ve forgotten most of it.
