Schmid in game 5 against the Canes was pretty similar to Markstrom in game 1 of this series.

We were woefully outplayed in that one, but probably not quite as badly as we were outplayed in game 1 of this series.

They should have went back to Schmid after we won that game 8-4 with Vitek in game 3.

I'm not saying we would have won the series, but Vitek did nothing but get a credited win (thanks to all the goals we scored) for that game. He did nothing to instill any confidence that he wasn't gonna be Rangers series Vitek.

He still was Rangers series Vitek in that win.

I think it was the 2nd period of game 4 where Vitek completely crumbled in a game that I think was either 1-1 or 2-1 Canes turned into either 4-1 or 5-1 Canes. I can't remember exactly, I just remember him allowing 3 goals in a matter of just minutes. I know he got pulled from that one and Schmid started game 5. That was the first of I think about 4 times (3 came in 23-24) where Vitek would allow 3-4 goals in a matter of minutes.

Dawson Mercer is overlooked and gets off scot-free too often. Puck is on his stock? I already know the outcome. This is a player that Fitzgerald should have moved while there was still value, another short sighted miss regarding evaluation from the GM.

I think everyone here (minus Jim) has appropriately shit on Dawson

I have never crapped on him to my recollection. I can accept he is what he is. He’s easy to root for and is sincere when I watch him. In thr moment frustration maybe but I wouldn’t move him just to try something else.

I agree while at the same time I find it very sad that he didn't develop the way we all hoped. But just like you I would't want to give him away unless it's as a part in a deal for a sure thing, like in a Quinn Hughes-trade or something. I also have not given up hope, he is still young.

I have kids older than him. It’s hard to view him as some sort of finished product

Timo is an incredible athlete but I’m convinced he’s dumber than a bag of pucks in terms of hockey IQ. He’s all reaction.

He’s not good enough for a first line 8.8M goal scoring power forward. I’m sorry. If he was at 4M and floating between lines 2 and 3, okay.

It’s time to move on - and unfortunately he is one of the six thousand NMC contracts we have

I like his demeanor as well and agree a good attitude goes a long way but talent needs to come with it in professional sports. Mercer was actually a favorite of mine as a rookie and I thought we had a ringer.

Next season will be his 5th.

I haven't disliked a Devil this much since 2010 Kovalsuck, or Brian Rolston. Mercdog is lucky cause he gets to draft behind this $8.8 million bum in terms of deserved venom. Admittedly part of it is just the excuses everyone gave him for the last two years, but finally that seems to be coming to an end at least.
If he scores I'm sure you'll see a bunch of "take that Timo haters" posts lol.

Of course...ironically with Rolston I was screaming at him in Game 7 against Carolina from the upper deck, 'ACT LIKE YOU CARE!' when he couldn't keep a puck in on the power play or something...then like a minute and a half later he scores the goal to make it 3-2 and one of the people next to me was laughing, I just shrugged my shoulders and chuckled.

Even if you ignore Meier's horrific shooting or write it off as just bad "luck", he has other major flaws in his game. For example, the 2nd Canes' goal in this game is 90% his fault. The decision he makes to pinch towards the puck carrier when he does is some braindead zero IQ BS. It's even worse considering it's the start of a shift, so he shouldn't be gassed. Just vacates the entire right side of the ice despite having 1.5 opponents breaking out there and Hamilton already near the puck carrier on the boards.

Meier deservedly gets credit for his physicality, ability to find dangerous space in the ozone consistently, and solid zone entries (only from the right). Pretty much everything else is a problem though.

Totally inexcusable at any competitive level, nevermind in the NHL. In a playoff game. I don't care if he isn't a defender. That doesn't excuse this away.
