Over the majority of the game, definitely agree. But Montreal had them gassed toward the end, and have many positives they can take with them into the next game. They must feel they can compete with them.

lol at the whining on the icing. Regardless of the call you don’t leave the greatest goal scorer open in the slot in ot. That was not the ref. Habs were fortunate to get it to ot.
Regardless of how they decide to alter it- I think tonight made it pretty obvious you can't play Laine and Demidov on the same line. Demidov is far too green and Laine hasn't really played any sort of defense for years at this point. They'll never see the puck if they're on the ice together 5v5.

The Habs really need a real second scoring line. Guys like Newhook and Dach (when healthy) are simply not good enough and I think you move on from Laine, I think we’ve seen enough. Complete overhaul needed there to give Demidov some pathways to success in his upcoming real rookie season.
But overall, pretty solid first playoff showing for the Habs even if Ovie wasn’t going to be denied.

Laine was truly awful and has been for a while. No effort by him ever, he is so slow and lazy and drives me insane. Aside from the PP he is a black hole on offense and the play dies every time he has the puck.
And the “anything to take the blame off Hutson “ by you doesn’t?
Rookie gets schooled by the literal best goal scorer in history , he’ll be fine in the long run

...Habs kids had a helluva introduction to Playoff hockey today...and they made it very interesting at the end...Habs fans need to be proud of this showing and ignore the baiting, as the baiters wouldn't be in the thread had OT gone the other way...congrats, Caps fans; it was a great game and hope Game 2 is just as heart-attack inducing...

I;m so glad the Caps got Montreal for this series. These posts have been mostly about the game, the reffing, the players, and not incessant barking back and forth between fan bases that can’t stand each. The posts have been about the game, not the fans …… refreshing.

Doesn't look like he's cheating. It looks as if he gets picked off following Ovi across the circle. Hutson is following Ovi from the edge of the circle and seems to be skating across face-off dot in pursuit of #8 and runs into traffic. He wasn't trying to fly out of the zone.
Good barometer of MSL how the Candiens play in Game 2. Tough loss for them.
...these are the games that the kids need to learn from if they are to grow to be contenders one day (hopefully soon)...and we'll see if MSL has learned something himself about coaching in the Playoffs...

If Habs can win game 2, it'll definitely make it more fun in Montreal. But even then, I don't know if anybody is ready for game 3 in Montreal. The players will be in for a surprise. Might be too loud for both teams hahahaha
