Because it didn't go directly into the net it's a different rule. Montreal could have challenged for missed stoppage of play rather than a highsticked goal.

I really don’t think Montreal is doing so badly. Optically, Washington is going a much better job protecting their slot area.

to me it seems more lopsided than the score at the moment. The Habs are way too sloppy and the caps are being too cute. I think caps can bury them if they shoot instead of trying to be the harlem globe trotters with the extra passing.
