Caps in 1

Since the last time they were good, they've been bad.

Very enlightening analysis!

Now please share with us the stats for the Habs since 1993.

I mean we're talking the last ~6 years. I figure that's relevant. Going back 30+ years doesn't make a lot of sense...

As for your comment of "since the last time theye were good"....way over exageration.

Since 2018-2019 season - Capitals are 9th in the league in regular season points, but dead last for playoff win percentage. It's not insignificant.

8 players played the 4 games last years playoffs with protas and cmc being two of them. not the same team. but yes the caps franchise hasnt done well since the cup

The reason for that is since the beginning of December the two teams have almost Identical records. There's a reason the odds makers have this closer than many thought it would be.

I mean yeah, but I think the actual “reason” you’re referencing here is Thompson, Protas, and Fehervary being hurt.

Caps are still -265 to take the series with their health up in the air. That’s an implied ~73% probability of series win. That probably goes up to 80-85% with a fully healthy lineup.

Protas skated a little over 10 minutes and did not stay on the ice for the morning skate, seemingly ruling him out of Game 1 of the Capitals’ first-round series against the Montreal Canadiens.

Though, after the session concluded, Capitals head coach Spencer Carbery said he was optimistic Protas would suit up sometime during the series.

“Yeah, I think he absolutely — I would expect him to play and we’ll just see when that is,” he said. “Might be tonight, might be Game 2, we’ll see.”

Jesus, people seem to forget that this is the team with the best record in the East vs a team that squeeked in on their last day.

Washington is a +55 while the habs are a -20.

This series might closer than it looks on paper but the habs are serious underdogs.

And this time they don't have Carey Price to steal a series or three.
So? Hockey is played on ice and not on paper. But so what if the Habs lost? They are not supposed to be here. The Caps can claim whatever superiority they want, the Habs is just happy to be here. A team that had no pressure, no expectation may be more dangerous than it may look.

Habs very fortunate to sneak into the playoffs and get this matchup. Caps the weakest of the top teams in the league.
There is no luck or being fortunate to be in the playoff. The season is 82 games long. If a team can't make the playoff it's on them. Regarding lucky to face the Caps? The Habs has no control on who they will be facing.

The few hours before Game 1 of Round 1 for the Caps are always the best. Stats? Yeah. Record? OK. Analytics? Sure. Fancy Stats? Nice. But it's 4-7 games and they're decided on the ice and they start in just over six hours. NHL playoffs are just the best, and bear in mind that I'm saying that as a 40+ year Caps fan who knows that they're the worst with one shining exception.

No Fehervary and no Protas really stinks. Caps are down two of their fastest and most physical players, and both are elite PKers as well. Logan Thompson hasn’t played in weeks either.

Maybe just the pessimist Caps playoff fan in me given, *waves hand at every Caps playoff choke sans 2018*, but would not be surprised to see Montreal steal this one and see this series go 6 or 7 games.

I have faith in the Habs playing closer to their level now that the pressure to make the playoffs being so close to them is gone. Back to underdog status where we've nothing to lose, and only experience to gain!
