Oh please anderson made a mistake and the Isles capitalized. Thats literally his only mistake in 4 games so far. I dont think chirping anderson is the answer here.

For some reason, Andersen gets absolutely nitpicked despite consistently being at least a top 10 goalie in the league, year over year. The guy has a freaking .927 in the playoffs since 2018 and yet every single game there’s someone saying “ahhh typical Freddie playoff meltdown”. It’s honestly exasperating.

Not gonna lie, i thought the Isles were going to toy with him mentally.

I couldnt have been more wrong. Hes every bit as good as Varlamov has been, which is bad news for the Islanders.

Hes providing conn smythe level goaltending for the Hurricanes. If not for anderson, isles would have the series tied 2-2 IMO. not because isles are as good as carolina, but the Isles had two games this series where Carolina handed them the game. freddys save on dobson in games 2 and 3 were both fantastic. Its fun to watch. Just not for the Islanders lol

Good for you Isles.. don't really have anything to complain about, there were some questionable calls/non-calls on both sides, which is typical so I won't complain about it.

I can only say I'm disappointed in the Canes play in our offensive and neutral zone. So many shots that should have been taken. Stop trying to be (overly) cute , and just keep putting pucks on net.

Anyway, will be happy to be back in front of our own fans even though I had hoped it would be against a different NY team 😆

I believe the answer to this scrappy Isles team is to shoot the mfking puck. This is playoff hockey, they aren't going to let you be pretty. I lost count of how many times I said "shoot dumbass" in this game 4. See ya in Raleigh.

I thought the same thing. There was one instance I remember where the Canes had a 2-1. I don't remember if it was late in the 3rd or in OT but it was a clear cut 2-1 and I believe Svech had the puck. I don't know the other Carolina player with him but instead of shooting the dang puck he passed it and I believe the Islander defender either blocked it throwing the pass off course or intercepted it.

I was so ticked because the passing lane was NOT there. On a 2-1 shoot the dang puck. If the goalie saves and holds on at least you'll get an offensive zone draw.

Isles fan here. Carolina is the real deal. They are about as perfect of a team as there is going for the cup. They are next to impossible to score on 5 on 5 and they have their way with special teams.

I dont think the Isles losing this series is as much as they lack talent as it is Carolina is just, from top to bottom, on another planet. The Islanders have given Carolina a lot to handle, so Im not as down on the Isles as most are.

Sometimes you have to tip your cap. I dont see Carolina losing on their way to the cup this year. They will do what they are doing to the Islanders to anyone.

For example, and to me its one of the more telling stats, Carolina was able to put up close to 50 shots on net while only winning 33 percent of the faceoffs.

Thats just ridiculous. the Islanders won 80
Percent of the time and still got outshot. And outposessed. And if not for Varlamov standing on his head, probably lose the game.

Hoping for an Isles miracle tuesday but fully expecting carolina to put it away at home. They will be flying.

Also small shoutout to Freddie Anderson. Brick wall in this series. I thought the Isles had a clear goaltending advantage and that just isnt the case. Hes standing on his head out there.

One of the small glimmers of hope the Isles had was that Anderson would be leaky. Instead he makes a highlight reel save several times per night. With goaltending even, Isles hill to climb got much harder. Again, it is what it is. Freddys dialed in and going toe to toe with Varlamov. That is impressive.

Islanders played us tough last year too. They're a gritty team that has no quit in them. They're frustrating to watch.

I fully expect/hope Carolina does come out flying in game 5 because the previous home games in the series haven't been their best, which is surprising

Game 4 with exception of the dreadful faceoffs I thought we played better than the other games but we actually got outgoalied for once. It's just amazing that our best period in the game regarding SOG was the first OT when Carolina had 17.

Also, regarding Andersen, I don't think he gets enough credit. He is the reason this series is what it is right now. He's made the saves when he's needed to.

Varlamov played great in game 4. Dare I say he actually stole that game because we peppered him with SOG that game including in the first OT.

Can't wait until Tuesday night.

Always nice to have Islanders fans coming here with class.

Respect, and agreed I saw a lot of Canes fans ticked by all the face off losses and when I saw the shot count in the third I didn't even realize we had been losing that many (very abnormal for us) I initially assumed we had the 80% lol.

The Isles are a middle of the pack group who punch above their weight class because of their style and tenacity....

But the Canes are top to bottom just stacked, the only weakness we have is our 2C by committee.

Oh please anderson made a mistake and the Isles capitalized. Thats literally his only mistake in 4 games so far. I dont think chirping anderson is the answer here.
I can understand why other Isles fans can think that way when one goalie mistake sinks you...
That said we will take Andersons performances 10/10 times our 5 on 5 has to be better.... and I suspect it will be with last change.

That's the Toronto effect for you. They have to shit all over their former players, otherwise they would have to face the realization that their organization is the problem, not the players who moved on

I picked Canes in 5 and honestly, we didn't deserve to win yesterday. We sat back too much after that first goal and played with very little urgency until we had to when NY took the lead. Just a fairly steady but flat game from us.

And it was also one of those games where it felt like so many of the little breaks and the puck luck just didn't go out way. Like KK shooting it right at Varly's stick on a gaping net in OT. Shit happens, it was just one of those games.

But, even with all of that said, we still managed to take the game to OT and definitely had our chances to win. I still feel good about the rest of the series, and honestly, should we win on Tuesday could be a blessing because it does look to be a lengthy delay until the next round, and we tend to struggle with that in the past.

a) too much variability (luck) in hockey to take such a definitive view, imo (2019 Bolts and 2023 Bruins say hello).
b) jinx post; I like being labeled as an underdog a lot better!

I hated the Varlamov signing when the Isles made it several years back but it seems to me he's better in the playoffs overall than he is in the regular season, his worst ever series was WSH vs MTL in 2010 and he should have won that anyway, his only disaster as an Isle was the infamous Marchand goal but it ended up not mattering in that series

I look at Andersen from a Fantasy hockey Perspective.

He usually SUCKS for the first 15 games of the season and then tightens up and becomes a Monster lol

I noted this years ago and always wait until he is on the trading block about 12 games in to start trying to lowball offer based on his current performance to get him. That didn't happen this year, but to be fair I didn't need a goalie upgrade this year and it would have bit me in the arse if I had traded for him since he missed so much time. trading jack Campbell for Bobrovsky after 7 games was the highlight trade of my year LOL. Several were convinced Campbell would rebound. Myself included, but getting offered Bob seemed like a safer bet

I mean why wouldn't we root for the series to be extended?

Pretty common stuff
Because you want to play us as soon as possible obviously. 🥶

Let's get the real show on the road ya know. Not common in my world, maybe yours. I want to play the best win or lose. Seeing as how you are the top threat in the conf. And the Canes depth of talent and performance this season being a close second.

As an Isles fan I would totally expect NYR fans to be rooting for the Isles to take this series to game 7, quadruple OT preferably, but then ultimately lose to CAR in heartbreaking fashion.

I'd be doing the same thing if it were reversed. It's the only fair and reasonable thing.

Dream scenario.

I'd say the Canes are living rent free considering Rags fans are in this thread pulling for the isles..... just saying
If the Isles were up 3-1 (easily could be) i'd be here pulling for the Canes.

Not sure I like the MOJO of the Canes already being favored over NYR on May 6th lol
The Canes are the cup favorites on every betting website. They are nigh-indomitable and favored over any team they play against. It will be embarrassing if they don't win the Cup this year. It's theirs to lose.

Funny, I thought the Cup was Vegas's to lose. I find it weird that it seems that a lot of people are favoring Dallas in that series. Now, Dallas may still win the series but I just don't see Vegas losing 3 of the next four games, especially now that Vegas has a healthy roster. Stone is back and Hertl is back.

If Vegas loses the series I'll eat crow.

I mean, where's the respect for Vegas. Vegas did win the cup last year and right now they are the kings of the NHL until someone knocks them off their pedestal.

Would I love for the Canes to win the cup? Sure. Do I think they will? Don't know.

They've come close but haven't gotten over the hump at this point.

Regardless, to win the Cup this season you have to go through Vegas. If they get knocked off in the first round or second round or whatever then the Stanley Cup is there for the taking.

Rangers fans cheering for Isles....what world are we living in?
I pretty firmly dislike the Hurricanes more.

If you were born after a certain time, the Islanders just haven't been the most relevant rival.

Neither team has been on a run at the same time since the early to mid 80's.
