Nope, once they win game 5 they will begin to believe in their destiny, 6 and 7 will be a formality.

I seriously don't get the hate for Shanahan unless you haven't been following this team since the early 90s then I guess you haven't seen what bad really is
you dont see the hate for Shanny? well first of all I will never hate Shanny. but his time in Toronto is over. have you not seen the results of the past close to 10 years?

While the Leafs have been trash, no argument there, this doesn't happen in a vacuum. The Bruins are not being given the credit they deserve for exposing the Leafs. The Bruins for the majority of 4 games have played solid, smart playoff hockey. The are grinding, clearing the puck, taking advantage of opportunities, and finishing when they need to. This is something that was missing last season against the cats.

For me, game 5 is where we as Bruins fans find out what we have in this team. Even when they have advanced, over the past 12 years when given the opportunity to finish a series and avoid playing unnecessary games and resting for the next opponent, they have taken games and teams lightly with the idea they had more opportunities to win a series. An instinct to kill is required. How they approach game 5 will tell us if they have really learned anything. The Leafs are down, the Bruins need to finish them in an efficient and business like manner.

btw, my first post. I'm new here but a Bruins fan going back to the early 70s.
Welcome aboard. Please go to the Bruins board here and introduce yourself to the rest of our ursine army. Pleased to meet you.

You were going on earlier today about how the Leafs have never lost a 1st round in less than 7 with this core.

It was both false and the lamest flex imaginable.
35 year old Brad Marchand has more points than the entire core combined in the playoffs so far

That said, the Bruins need to be lights out in game 5 and put them away. That 4th win is always the hardest and none of us expect Toronto to go down without a fight.

I'll be thrilled if we don't see the puck stopped by a Bruins forward just inside their own blue line and some lame pass to the middle made that gets picked off and kept in. I'm tired of yelling "what are you stopping the clear for?!" My heart can only take so much!

Yeah I've seen the results, more importantly I know what the previous 10 years before he came to TO were like, we missed the playoffs nearly every season.

Shanahan hasn't won a cup yet, but I do think we have a better chance to win one with him than without him here

I'll get the Leafs logo tattooed on my chest if they comeback and win this series in 7

Haha, that would be awesome.

But to be fair he's been easily the best leaf this playoff, leading the team in scoring while being so sick that his team doctor pulled him from game 4. Guy is leading in goals, points, 2nd in team hits and has honestly been the only forward who's looked like they've gave a damn outside of our 4th line.

Marner has been awful, Tavares 1 point in 4 games, beeves and butthead can't stay out of the box, our defence has been non existent and Keefe has been outcoached.

There's a whole lot of problems with our roster, team effort, etc. But Matthews is the last person that deserves blame, I know and you do too.
Matthews has been extremely disappointing, minus game 2. 'Gave a damn' means nothing when you don't accomplish anything.

Welcome to the board!

The Matthews thing is very strange and speaks to something serious. I'm not saying he's immune (no pun intended) from criticism for this - or past playoffs - but this is clearly more than your average stomach bug.

And look, I know this is all easier said than done and as I've said it's a flawed roster with questionable coaching, but when you're in that room and you know Matthews is nowhere near 100% and unable to be what he normally is, how does no one step up? And not to BE Matthews, of course not. but just be more willing to crash the net, to be a shooting threat on the PP if you're Rielly or Marner, making sure you're as locked down and vigilant as possible on the PK.

I know it's probably a poor analogy, but if your 50 home run hitter is out of the lineup, you adjust. Maybe you're more apt to steal a base or hit and run or bunt* (*don't actually bunt, bunting sucks), the point is adjust to your new normal. No one in Toronto, from the coach through the roster seems to want to do that.

This a pretty bad Bruins team by their standards. If the Leafs can’t pull this one out, then you might as well blow it up
7-1 in 8 games vs the leafs this year says this bruins team isn’t as bad as you think. They may not have the names, but they certainly produce the results .

The other thing is Boston isn’t built to win track meets.

They are built from the back out, and win with team work, playing hard.

Toronto is built to win by scoring more…. If your best offensive players are scoring the same as pasta, chances are you are losing a lot of playoff series.

Toronto has 7 goals in 4 games…. 1.75 goals a game…. Their defense and goalie isn’t going to be able to overcome that.

Even worse the core 4 has 3 goals in 4 games.

I’ll take those 7 goals + at least a 20-25% powerplay

Things would look a hell of a lot better

I’m not going to do that shit, but I’ll buy an HFboards sponsorship

f*** it, I’ll buy you one too

Don’t worry, they will.

I love this team, I don’t love these players

He should have said his ass instead of chest

I fully expect the Leafs to come out the same way that they did in game 2. It sounds like Matthews could still be out which is obviously a huge hit. We'll see what happens

Matthews has 1 goal in his last 9 playoff games and if I was a leafs fan I’d have a hard time defending him. Personally think part of the problem for him in playoffs is it’s a lot easier to cover a one dimensional shooter like Matthews who’s not really a threat to set others and might explain why nylander who’s more a dual offensive threat seems to perform the best of the core leafs

I’ll admit his game 2 heroics were fantastic but needs consistency, unlucky timing with the whatever he’s got

Musical chairs...whats wrong with these 3 leafs.First its Nylander, then its Marner....now its Matthews.
Matthews has not been good since gm3.Marner needs a bully on his line.Nylander looks ok now.

pretty sure Shanny won 3 cups. those 10 years came because we traded every pick and every prospect for years try to win then the cap came in and we had to cut like 20m or something and the Muskoka 5 wouldn't waive their NTC when we wanted to rebuild, then we trade Rask for Raycroft and what would have/could have been Seguin + Hamilton for Kessel along with alot of other bad moves.

I honestly found those 10 years more exciting then this.

like great we play so good in the regular season and then pure collapse come playoffs. whats really been better the past 10 years over the previous 10? I mean seriously? the only season we ever felt good about our team was after the WSH series when we took it to Game 6 and Matthews, Marner and Nylander were in their 1st season. its been nothing but disappointment after disappointment.

I dunno about you but Im sick of being the joke of the NHL. time for change

Ok devils advocate. You survive next year with Tavares and then allocate his money more on D and goaltending. But you bring in a new coach.

Anyway, all this end of season Leafs talk is making me uncomfortable. Still at least one more game.
You've got nothing to worry about, Boston's got this in the bag. When's the last time Boston blew a 3-1 series lead and lost in the first round? :sarcasm:
