Panarin, I think could still work in a good environment. He's a good 5v5 player, and there's no disputing that.

Zibanejad is a gimmick. He wouldn't be effective on a good team.

Panarin and Mika both are regular season players. Nothing more. They rarely show up when it counts in the playoffs

They let McDavid and Draisaitl do what they want, fair enough.

The rest of the team is a shot suppression machine that can forecheck and put their stars in good spots.

I agree, but that’s why I said a different breath. Theres no doubt Panarin is instrumental in getting us to the dance each year, but he isn’t a guy who should make near 12M. He doesn’t control play or dictate the shape of a game and you really can’t afford to pay a premium for players who can’t take over. I get he’s game planned for and faces matchups, so he gets more of a pass for sure, but until the cap starts going up again, Panarin has earned to large a chunk of the cap. McDavid and MacKinnon deserve it. Panarin just isn’t in that tier. And overpaying talent has been a hallmark of NYC hockey.
