Eastern Conference Wild Card Watch

Florida is a very bad matchup for us, so yeah it probably is. Toronto wants to be like Florida except it doesn't have the personnel to do it as well as Florida does. They'll probably beat us in 5-6

Ottawa is a good team but Toronto should (key word) beat them

That's nice and all except in the NHL you want the easiest pathway. The Leafs have demons irrespective of their opponent, I'd rather they try and figure it against weaker competition

The way I see it, you can take advantage of a team that has gone to the limit for two years in a row. The Panthers are banged up, and it's unlikely their engine will run as smooth as it has for the last couple playoffs. I suspect they will have their ebbs and flows but it's hard to run the machine consistently like in years past.

It was a similar situation for Tampa that year they were coming off three straight finals.

This is the worst thing I've read all day
Don't tell me for a minute that this possibility hasn't entered your mind. We all have PTSD over that shit man, the only thing that will make it go away is a shiny trophy and I'm not holding my breath.

Also, you clearly haven't been to Reddit today lol.

It’s pretty much over in the West with the Blues winning streak secure them a WC spot Slim to none chance for Flames to catch up
The East looks set too with the Canadiens finding their game and winning down the stretch when it matters while all contenders were shitting their beds.

The funny part about the Tampa series is that it wasn't us beating an old, worn down opponent. Tampa handily outplayed us the entire series, we won on the backs of a bad Vasi + an elite powerplay

I do agree if we play Florida R1 is the time to do it since they seem to be injured and out of form. But the hope was let TB/FLA kill each other

This, this, this a thousand times this. They are nothing but losers until proven otherwise. I'd be thrilled to be proven wrong.
Also pretty sure I read something Paul Maurice said over the weekend about the upcoming playoffs. He said something like (not a direct quote) "The Atlantic goes through Florida or Ontario, and if they win that you then have to face either the Caps with the best record in the East or Carolina. There really is no team you want to face."

Playoff teams are pretty much set, in both conferences, which is crazy because both races were really tight just a few weeks ago with many teams in both conferences right in the mix but it's pretty much over now. Boring rest of the regular season ahead

On the positive side, hopefully this means more teams will be going to the playoffs healthy, as they’re able to rest players in the next couple of weeks.

In the East everyone simply decided to suck since the race got tight. Ottawa has been playing well and locked up WC1 (at the very least) for a bit now, Montreal has played well and jumped into WC2, and everyone else said "Yeah, it's yours".

So what’s the magic number for Montreal right now, 7?

Ie any combination of points gained for Montreal vs points lost for detroit or nyr
Correct, for NYR. Habs are up 6 points on NYR and Rags have 6 games left. NYR can max out at 91 points. Habs are at 85 points, but currently well behind NYR for RW, thus would lose that tie breaker. So, need to finish ahead of them in points.

Det tied with NYR and same games played. Mon/Det currently have the same # of RW, so unless Det just wins all of their games to tie Mon in points, Mon also has to finish ahead of them too.
