Eastern Conference Wild Card Watch

Habs can still pass Ottawa. I don't know why everyone thinks Ottawa is locked into WC1.

Ottawa is up 5 points

Ottawa's next 4 games: Tampa, Florida, CBJ, CBJ
Montreal's next 4 game: Boston, Philly, Nashville, Detroit

Then they have a game head to head against each other - and Montreal has swept Ottawa so far.

You say that but deep down you know it’s not true.

CBJ schedule is brutal, and NYR need help.

Ottawa is up 5 points

Ottawa's next 3 games: Tampa, Florida, CBJ
Montreal's next 3 game: Boston, Philly, Nashville

Then they have a game head to head against each other also - and Montreal has swept them so far.

...Habs have ONE Top 6 centre, Suzuki, and are horrid most nights against the Bottom Dwellers...I take nothing for granted this year...

Technicaly 6 points with the tiebreaker.

But yes, we’re very capable of blowing it.

Habs have a cakewalk and will easily make the playoffs. Too much ground for CBJ/NYR to cover.
I wish I had that confidence.

But, yes, logically the Habs' odds of making the playoffs are higher. If they can take care of business against Boston, Philly, and Nashville in the next three, they should be in a good position as Columbus and the NYR have much tougher opponents.

1) 5 points is a huge gap especially now that we are in april

2) Habs tend to play better against better teams. Nothing is a given for them.

3) its the time of the year where results get more random, regardless. Anybody notice the caps have currenty lost 4 out of 5 games despite a 'soft" schedule?

We need Ott to beat CBJ in those games.

As it stands, Habs have a 4% chance of being WC1.

1.) 5 points is not a lot, particularly when the teams play each other. That cuts the lead to 3 points if the Habs win. Is that too much to overcome in the 7 remaining games (after the head to head)?

2.) No one said it was a given for the Habs, just that WC1 is not a given for Ottawa.

3.) What are the Caps playing for? They basically clinched the East. If you think 5 points is a lot, the Caps are 9 points up on their closest competition. It's a completely different scenario than a team playing for playoff seeding.

As always anything is possible, better chance TB or Florida catch the leafs then, with points difference.

1) In what world is 5 points not a monstrous lead with 8 games left? Even if the sens only win 4 of 8, the habs would still have to go 7-1, and that is assuming the sens dont pick any OT points which is a lofty assumption.

2) same concept applies for any other team behind ottawa, except they would need even better records

3) thats my point regarding people who hang their hat on schedule strength. You see some silly results down the stretch.
