Eastern Conference Wild Card Watch

Gonna stick to my guns and say Ottawa and NYR make it, but it’s hard not to be impressed with what Detroit is doing.

It’s worth noting that at this time last year the wings had a 9 and 10 point lead on eventual WC teams Wash and NYI.

Will be interesting to see if they learned from last year’s collapse (4 regulation wins in the last 23 games, just missed the playoffs)
DRW 2-8 since that post. Looks like they didn’t learn much from the last couple of seasons

Hope Mtl and Ott get in. Good for canada
Also like to see Det get in. Good young fun team
Detroit making it in would be a miracle. Their closing schedule is brutal. I believe it is the toughest strength of schedule remaining. 9 of 14 on the road, a couple runs of 3 games in 4 nights, essentially all against current playoff teams. And we're not talking bubble teams either.

Re: the strength of schedule talk, don't forget that often near the end of the season a bad team, playing for nothing and with a long break in their sights, can be a tougher opponent than a good team that's pretty well set into a playoff spot.
Will probably be true in a few weeks. As of right now only the theee divsional Metro teams seem to be settled into their spots.

So after tonight Isles are now sitting 9th in the East, 2 points back of Habs with the RW edge, by 1. 14 to go for each.

If Lou gets Cal Ritchie at the deadline, by trading the #1 C on the board, and still gets into the playoffs does that make him the winner at the deadline?

The Isles forward group has to be among the weakest of all contending teams, but Bo Horvat is playing some inspired hockey right now.

Also where's the fans, hard not to notice the empty seats?

As a DRW fan trying to cheer myself up by remembering those 4 cups or drying my tears with my Yzerman, Lidstrom jersey's is not working anymore. Howe jersey doesn't work anymore either.

DRW falling into the same old useless draft pick range again chasing short term Round 1 playoff bounce.. By the time they build a decent team, the great young players they have now will have moved on.

I know, cry me a river. They aren't close ot the dead things yet.

They don't have to worry about the curse of 1967 and they aren't the worst original 6 team (yet) this year.

Ottawa really needs this and so do their fans. I hate Montreal with a passion, but they'd make the playoffs interesting. Imagine one of those teams knocking off the Leafs. The story writes itself.

DRW fans will survivive a few more years, until the memories of the glory years fade.

The Rangers continue to shoot themselves in the foot. This homestand against Canadian teams has been brutal (losses vs EDM, CGY, TOR). The Canucks will probably beat them tomorrow too. For the sake of the future, the Rangers are just better off missing the playoffs this year and avoid the Caps getting their revenge on them in the first round.

Now the Rangers have fallen, Ottawa has a cushion, NJ is not falling out of the race, and Montreal & the Isles are fighting for the last spot. Be nice if one of those teams put a winning streak together.

Rangers kind of showed their true selves here. Ah well.

They could do themselves a favor now and fall further down the standings to that top 13 protected 1st area, which I believe they are already in, and maybe Uncle Gary gives you a weighted lottery ball with Hagens name on it.

Just what the league needs. Give the rangers another top pick to ruin.

I'll tell ya, having a birds eye view of the Habs last night vrs the Isles. They look hungry and have some real good pieces to get in and actually make a run. From good skill in Caufield and Suzuki, to young guys like Slav, hungry aggressive vets in Anderson and Gallagher, plus some shot blockers and an enforcer they have alot. Will goal tending hold up? If the Isles dont make it, will be pulling for them,

Agree. They look fast young and hungry. Reminds me of the '13 or '15 Isles
