E60: Unrivaled Wings/Avs Documentary

Hell I'm convinced Crawford made a big deal about Moore trying to stage his own "Bloody Good" in some hope of a spring board. Both instances the team opted to wait for the last game at home.

Can't fault Nikolishin for wanting to stop a roid head from beating a defenseless teammate.

Yeah, I don't blame the Avs for wanting to get at Bertuzzi either, just unfortunate that doing so they all piled on the poor guy going down.

Sure, but the bad feelings are still there for some.
We lost the North Stars, so I became a Red Wings fan after that. I watched every game as it happened back then. I still loathe the Avs to this day. Doesn't do it any good that now being more of a Wild fan than a Wings fan nowadays, as our fanbase pretty well hates the Avs as well.

So, yes. You are correct.

One reporter wrote that it only covers the 1995 to 1998 years, but 1999 to 2003 the rivalry was still running. Colorado even tried going nuclear by getting Selanne and Kariya to match what Detroit did in 2001-02.

I'm hoping that at some point they have a sequel to show the rest of the story.

People in here are actually trying to say Kozlov on Foote started the rivalry LOL. The teams didnt like each other, there was a bit of a rivalry, guys like Foote and Lemieux were constantly going after the wings skilled guys. Kozlov gave it back like hockey was back then. What made the rivalry go nuclear was not only the Lemieux hit, but Lemieux's reaction to it, saying Draper should thank him for making him a household name after he completely caved his face in with a massive cheapshot.

The on ice stuff was just that, taking it off the ice and into the press like Lemeiux did is what made it go nuclear. Being alive at the time and knowing that doesnt mean anyone thinks the wings players are angels at all. Both teams gave it back and forth, saying the Kozlov thing started it is the biggest piece of revisionist history on this website. Saying that doesnt mean anyone thinks the wings were angels, I'm glad they werent angels actually, its just realistically what happened at the time. Angels wouldnt have left Roy, Lemeiux and Forsberg completely bloodied without a scratch on themselves for the record either

McCarty went through a bad divorce and developed a drinking/drugs problem. Took him years to get clean and he still has '50+ truck stop waitress voice'.

Drugs are bad, mmmkay?

would it go all the way up to this year's finals, the team sakic built trying to dethrone the team yzerman built?

just in case people are going to have to miss this airing (like me) ESPN2 is showing it again basically every day next week (Monday 5 PM-7 PM PST is the next one)

It’s a shame the wings switched conferences. Wether the rivalry is dead or not it was always excitement to watch the Wings vs Avs as growing up in Michigan early 2000s some of my best memories were tuning in to watch the games between these two teams. It’s a shame that this game only happens twice a year now.

I really enjoyed this! I was surprised to learn than Lemieux named his kid after Shanahan!! Also, Draper is easily the least likeable in this entire doc...by a lot!

Gotta say I felt it was pretty damn good...I enjoyed the depth - going back to QC and the move to Denver...Roy getting shelled while still a Hab...Lemieux starting out in NJ and playing with Shanahan.

Funny - I really enjoyed how Lemieux comes across as a good guy off the ice and Draper is still bitter

I want Tampa to come back and win it again. I was a die hard Yzerman and wings fan when i was a kid. When he left for Tampa i didn't root for Tampa per se but, i followed them a decent amount and have enjoyed watching what Yzerman built with the Bolts. I had a feeling he would come back to Detroit as well and when he did i started rooting for Tampa more and more just to see how dominant and Yzerman team will go. Long story short i cringe to hear of Sakic over Yzerman at all. Either way it is a loss, if the Avs win? That's bad enough. If the Bolts win then it's back to hearing from Leafs fans saying this was their year. Tampa was the only team in the NHL that could be them, every other team would of got swept right to the cup.

What's kinda crazy is that Draper is such a good dude. I've seen him in Plymouth during camps and he's super friendly and approachable. I'm sure the producers told him how to act for his segments and I'm sure part of it is the fact that he had his face and life messed up for a couple of months from a cheap shot. That's hard to let go of.
