Anyone interested in a PPG center that’s on a great contract? 3 years to go at 5 per. Only downside is he’ll be your slowest forward and is softer than babyshit. Hockey trades only, no futures.

He’s not a perfect player but in an environment where 3/4 of the league needs a top six center, a 28 year-old center who had 82 points in 82 games and then 11 points in 9 playoff games and makes a mind-numbingly stupid $5 million per year for the rest of his prime should and would draw tremendous interest.

That contract itself is gold. The amount of analytical value there is tremendous. Compare that to what $5 million will buy you in free agency this summer and how much longer you will be on the hook for whatever you are dishing out. There’s no chance the Caps should deal him unless they are getting a haul or an all-star level player with a good contract back.

Garbage thread, and I won’t stand for the Strome slander. Strome has been terrific and is great value. He is not soft and yeah he’s not the fastest but his IQ is ridiculously high. He’s like an 8/10 version of Backstrom.

I thought Carberry did Strome a disservice against Carolina keeping him with Ovechkin. Ovechkin clearly couldn’t keep up with the pace of play.

He also absolutely loves being a Cap and he’s loved in DC. Interesting post by someone who has never posted on HFCaps before.

Another team sick of Strome’s shit? Gee couldn’t see this one coming.
OP speaks for literally no fan other than himself in Washington. He is loved in DC and has established himself as part of the core. I know he disappointed in other places but he’s been everything we could have asked for and more since he got here.

If you want to sell him as a PPG player, then your expectation coming back is probably close to a PPG player, and you're not going to get that. So you should probably keep the player on the good contract putting up points for you.

Washington took a forward where many thought it would be a step backwards. It's tough to replace that with a 1st, middle 6 and prospect. You need something great coming back and I'm not sure Strome in a swap will get that. I get selling him at his highest, but even if it's not replicated, it's probably more valuable to keep him for now than look at futures if the goal is to repeat the great season.

I highly doubt the offer involving Matthews is one Toronto would actually make.

Strome could “regress” to be a 55-60 point center and that contract would still be elite. As it is, he could have some on-ice shooting% regression next year and still easily project as a first line level offensive playmaker for the next few years.

If you are looking for a top six center whose contract runs for his 28, 29 and 30 age seasons and then drops off right as he turns 31 for $5 million AAV…there just aren’t many contracts like that. It cannot be stated enough what kind of surplus value you are getting there - both cap hit and ideal duration in a player’s career arc. There is pretty much no incentive for him to be even remotely available…

Hmmm I think this would be an unreal deal if it went down as a fan with no rooting interest in either team.
For the leafs or caps or both?

Caps could go from a 900+ goal guy to a guy who should end up with 700+ goals even if his wrists never recover with a shot still at top 4 all time in goals.

Leafs would be moving on from this past era with exception of 88 and building a team around 88 and younger pieces.

Would be one of the biggest blockbuster if it ever went down in real life

Hahaha “stop disliking what I like!” Of course I only speak for myself because I’m not deluded

I thought it was important to note that nobody agrees with you so people who don't watch Strome or Washington on a regular basis have a clear understanding that this is the opinion of the extreme minority. And when you describe a player you want to trade as one that will be a slow soft pile of baby shit, it tends to poison the well and affect other's perceptions of the player.

One completely predictable and non-embarassing series loss and all of the crazies come out of the woodwork ...

Nope. One guy is sick of his shit. Strome loves the team and DC and most reasonable Caps fans love him and would never want him traded.
82 points in the season. 11 pts in 9 playoff games.
I`m sure you shitting on him makes you feel better about your team letting him walk for nothing.
