Dylan Strome : The guy is lighting it up Mcdavid or not... Why the omission, you need quick chemistry in this tournament. He and Mcdavid would tear the tournament apart.

There are a lot of good players that were left off. But it's like that every year. I get that chemistry is obviously the most important factor in short tournaments, but the forwards up front are loaded with up to 5 centers. Seems they're going the Olympic route and building their roster around speed. Still though, u scratch your head at some players left off.

I'm actually concerned about the defense. Only one right handed shot. :amazed:

How the leading scorer in the OHL does not get an invite is a complete joke. It is also a joke the amount of few right-handed shots. It has been a pattern with Hockey Canada and its roster selection. Every year there are obvious omissions, and when Canada fails to win GOLD, you hope they smarten up and take the BEST available talent.

Then the two goalies are already picked without any competition. That is a joke as well, along with Jarry not invited for Goaltending. What is the problem of having a little competition between the pipes? Absolutely pathetic, since Hockey Canada learned nothing from last year. They never do, and that is why this country has not won since 2009.

I'm just dumbfounded as to how the OHL leading scorer... and occasional line mate of McDavid gets left off... regardless to how "Valueable" someone is... If Mcdavid was hyped as number 1 overall as he is... but only had 8 points in his first 21 games or so... I would fully expect him to be a last minute cut for team canada if there were players having lights out years..

Center or not... special players can play in all positions up front... especially a center as they see most of the ice anyway.

Don't know why. Connor Brown wasn't invited last year despite leading the OHL in scoring. If anything, this is predictable.

I don't understand it either. Would like Mr. Writer's perspective on this.

Opinions??? I have many, but I don't particularly have any issue with Strome being excluded.... his OHL stats don't impress me that much and my guess is they have either already penciled in Crouse on the roster (or are at least hoping beyond hope he impresses at camp to justify his spot on the team) and Hockey Canada would never in a million years name 3 double underagers to the U20 team. I can't recall it ever happening, but I'll have to dig into the achieves and the memory banks.. 2 is the most. 2009 Ellis and Evander Kane. and remember Kane was initially cut from the team and only called back as an injury replacement, taking Dana Tyrell's spot. Dana Tyrell still toiling away in the minors and Hockey Canada loves their AHL talent over NHL elite talent.

Maybe they know something we don't about Lazar / Duclair. Let's keep this in mind.

I don't give the benefit of the doubt to any of the idiots at Hockey Canada, they have pretty much demonstrated their levels of incompetence over the past several years... so until this management group actually proves they can select the right group of players under the right coach playing the right way, I'll remain critical. That's what I keep in mind.

I'm not sure if anyone else caught the hypocrisy in the first paragraph, but I certainly did. You feel they aren't paying enough attention to handedness, and then turn around and criticize them for not taking the best players available. Those two statements are in direct conflict.

As for Strome, whether or not he would've made the final cut, I think if you're the leading scorer in the OHL, you've earned yourself a camp invite. It's a shame.

Well, to be honest, how many forwards are there? 15-19? Not many. I would be more dissapointed if they selected 25-30 forwards and Strome wasn't there.

I laughed only because unfortunately IMO it's true more times than it should be

Yeah, Strome should have made the team. He's leading the top junior league in the country in scoring after all.

Traditionally 17 year old's don't play as well as 18 and 19 year old's in this tournament. Even ones as good as Strome. Simple as that.

Well I watched him the other night in Kitchener and I'd say he and the rest of the Otters were a pile of stinking dog ****. He's physically big enough, I just don't see the experience nor the speed there as a 17 year old. He should be there next year, but he'll likely have to add a half a step to a step of speed to his game.

imo, his skating is his big weakness (i just don't mean re WJC eligibility - i mean in general).

Strome really hasn't been 'lighting it up' without McDavid. Hovering around a point per game the last 3 weeks.

Which is very good considering the rest of the team hasn't been great.

I would have liked to see Strome invited to camp and then cut if he clearly wasn't good enough (and he might not have been, if nothing else because of his skating). Considering who else is there, I think he should have been given the opportunity to compete for a spot (same with Marner, but that's another story).

They're tried the "chemistry" thing before with Hall, Henrique and Nemisz... don't think that it worked out so well.
