Dylan Strome : The guy is lighting it up Mcdavid or not... Why the omission, you need quick chemistry in this tournament. He and Mcdavid would tear the tournament apart.

I'm just dumbfounded as to how the OHL leading scorer... and occasional line mate of McDavid gets left off... regardless to how "Valueable" someone is... If Mcdavid was hyped as number 1 overall as he is... but only had 8 points in his first 21 games or so... I would fully expect him to be a last minute cut for team canada if there were players having lights out years..
Center or not... special players can play in all positions up front... especially a center as they see most of the ice anyway.
I don't understand it either. Would like Mr. Writer's perspective on this.

Opinions??? I have many, but I don't particularly have any issue with Strome being excluded.... his OHL stats don't impress me that much and my guess is they have either already penciled in Crouse on the roster (or are at least hoping beyond hope he impresses at camp to justify his spot on the team)
Maybe they know something we don't about Lazar / Duclair. Let's keep this in mind.
I agree.Maybe they know something we don't about Lazar / Duclair. Let's keep this in mind.
How the leading scorer in the OHL does not get an invite is a complete joke. It is also a joke the amount of few right-handed shots. It has been a pattern with Hockey Canada and its roster selection. Every year there are obvious omissions, and when Canada fails to win GOLD, you hope they smarten up and take the BEST available talent.
Then the two goalies are already picked without any competition. That is a joke as well, along with Jarry not invited for Goaltending. What is the problem of having a little competition between the pipes? Absolutely pathetic, since Hockey Canada learned nothing from last year. They never do, and that is why this country has not won since 2009.
Well, to be honest, how many forwards are there? 15-19? Not many. I would be more dissapointed if they selected 25-30 forwards and Strome wasn't there.I'm not sure if anyone else caught the hypocrisy in the first paragraph, but I certainly did. You feel they aren't paying enough attention to handedness, and then turn around and criticize them for not taking the best players available. Those two statements are in direct conflict.
As for Strome, whether or not he would've made the final cut, I think if you're the leading scorer in the OHL, you've earned yourself a camp invite. It's a shame.

I can't recall it ever happening, but I'll have to dig into the achieves and the memory banks.. 2 is the most. 2009 Ellis and Evander Kane. and remember Kane was initially cut from the team and only called back as an injury replacement, taking Dana Tyrell's spot. Dana Tyrell still toiling away in the minors and Hockey Canada loves their AHL talent over NHL elite talent.
Well I watched him the other night in Kitchener and I'd say he and the rest of the Otters were a pile of stinking dog ****. He's physically big enough, I just don't see the experience nor the speed there as a 17 year old. He should be there next year, but he'll likely have to add a half a step to a step of speed to his game.
Strome really hasn't been 'lighting it up' without McDavid. Hovering around a point per game the last 3 weeks.
