Given, a recent post on Red Wings board, and Ken Holland close to taking job in LA, I think it warrants further discussion.

Larkin for Byfield has also been the de facto proposal on Wings board. Seems like it makes sense for both teams, yet it feels like LA fans would balk.

I have no idea which is why I made the request, but what type of sweetner do you think it would take to get it done?

I wonder if there’s something that could be made with the Avs to solve their 2C issues. Probably too tight on the cap. They’d have to at least move Coyle I assume. Ritchie would be their best asset I guess but they don’t really have a current going roster player the Wings would probably covet.

They also traded Ritchie in the Nelson deal.

They certainly would balk. Not sure what the upside of this trade would be from L.A perspective other than getting older
To win now. LA gets a cost controlled, more experienced NHL 2nd line center who extends their window, rather than tear it all down.

I'm not too familiar with LA's prospect pool or depth chart. The Red Wings have a surplus of LD prospects (Buium, Wallinder), a few roster players could be expendable (namely Rasmussen and Berggren, who coincidentally are both Holland guys).

Although it seems like it could be a hockey trade, one for one.

I've seen these rumours .... can any WIngs fans fill me in on why they would be looking to move Larkin, and if so, what would they be looking for?

As for the Larkin situation, it’s something to watch over the next year or so.

Let’s just say Yzerman wasn’t happy with Larkin’s comments after the season, and that’s not where this all started either. Yzerman was not happy with Larkin’s play or leadership down there stretch. Supposedly, this goes back to 4Nations, where there was a conversation between Larkin, Draper and Cleary, that the team felt was out of line. That Larkin was almost trying to dictate moves the team should make.

So this thing could boil over.. Especially, if as many expect, the Wings take a step backwards next year, as they move more kids into the lineup. Something that was explained to Larkin before the deadline in 2024 btw. He was told they would likely have 2-3 more seasons before they’d compete consistently again. All up front, before he signed his wealth contract. Yet not a year later, he was complaining? So it’s not gone over well. Especially being their captain.

It’s also no secret Yzerman doesn’t see Larkin as many fans do. So this one could get ugly as soon as next deadline, if they’re sitting at the bottom of the standings. Fact is, they’re where NJ was a few years ago. Lots of ups and downs. That turned into NJ picking 2nd and 4th or 5th again, after they had made the playoffs. The Wings probably won too much these last two years in all honesty, because their kids have been better sooner than they expected. That doesn’t mean that big step backwards we always see as teams filter through their young players, isn’t coming this year. The old, take a step backwards, before taking two steps forward and truly competing thing.

So it may actually be in their best interest to trade Larkin. The 2-3 nice pieces they’d get in return, would probably help them more in 2-3 years, than Larkin will.

Don’t think that hasn’t gone through Yzerman’s mind, knowing they’re still 2-3 years away from truly competing to win playoff games.

Just something to ponder heading into next year, if the two sides aren’t happy with each other. In my circles, most think they’ll be a lottery team next year. Even if they make some solid moves this summer. The Atlantic is loaded and Columbus, Philly and Buffalo are all expected to take steps. Boston won’t be this bad either. So good bet, they’ll have some lottery balls for MCKenna or Stenberg.

Not a wings fan so can't comment on what they want. But it appears to stem from Larkin's frustration at the season end presser (missing the playoffs for 9 straight years) and speculation by some he may want out.

thanks, didnt know all that.
so what would the WIngs want?
i imagine theres a path where the Canucks are dumb enough to think they can load up and compete (or, more politically, they want to make an impression on Hughes) ... does WIllander and a first interest, if so how much more might be needed? I admittedly know nothing about the WIngs needs ...

Larkin got pissy in the end of season media and complained that the team needed a morale boost and didn't grab anything at the TDL.

Yzerman then came in his own end of season media and said the team pissed away points and he expects a morale boost to come from his top players "Because that's what they're paid for."

And petty people think that every time two sides have a disagreement it means the relationship is irrepairable.

Can’t see us signing debrincat x7-8 , if larkin goes he can be gone as well before his deal ends

Anyways i can’t see larkin waiving his ntc at any point soon

... How does Ken Holland taking a job in LAK warrant a Larkin trade thread.

He drafted Larkin. McLellan knows the King's roster. If Larkin is moved from Detroit (and in IMO if there is a shred of truth to the latest update, SY will move on) LA makes as much sense as anywhere, and Holland coming in could trigger talks.

Based on this I made a post requesting to re-open the existing thead and someone just re-titled this as a new value thread.

Just to say if we someone make a move for byfield I’d want to make a move for Lafraniere and go with a

Lafraniere byfield raymond line 😂 just have to wait a few more years to add stutzle and Sanderson to have the whole draft collection 🤣

Verbeek also has ties to Larkin. Why didn't he generate a Larkin trade thread?
