Since I couldn't find a Larkin thread (strange) I'll open one here...

I'm already looking forward to the 4 Nations with him and Lucas.

I think a big part of what makes him a fantastic captain can be directly traced back to the work ethic and mentality that Stevie created when he got the C. He passed it on the Lidstrom, who passed it on to Hank, who passed it on to Larkin.

As I mentioned in the GDT, Larkin took 39 faceoffs last night. To win 61% of them is incredible.

I think they said during the broadcast that it's the most faceoffs a Wings player has taken since Steve Yzerman.

With Compher out, they really need to find another guy who can win faceoffs besides Larkin and Copp.

They may have said Yzerman, but the answer is Fedorov. Unless they awkwardly meant that Yzerman has the next highest total with 40? But Fedorov's 46 is more recent.

Zetterberg is #20 on the list with 34 FO and Datsyuk #50 with 31. Every other name is Fedorov or Yzerman.

I think they said most face-off wins. So not number taken, but actual wins.

From this site, and the old RWC site, any who know me (not that you would) understand how much I loved this pick. I was pegging him as a Calder winner an instant add to the line-up, etc. I said it above, his skating, hockey IQ and flat out determination to win and get better oozes from every pour. He has learned how to use fartlek training (for the Swedish fan base) and methods to deceive and burst by opponents. he has improved his skating leverage, added muscle and I am thrilled someone brought up faceoffs. This guy came into the League and wasn't very good in the circle. He worked on it and in his 4th season was over 50% and never looked back. He takes near every critical face off. He'll roll out their for the D zone PK faceoff. If they win it and send it down the ice, he shifts. Freeze the puck, he skates out again. this guy became Captain the old fashion way, he earned it.

Mickey calls him diesel for a reason.

Props to the Captain.

Those are elite numbers. I always thought we get the worse center out of that incredible WJHC team USA. Now, I think he is better than Eichel.

This team lives and dies with him. I hope he is not getting injured this season.
I think Larkin is great and definitely a 1C, but Eichel is on pace for 102 points while playing well defensively. That's a pretty hard sell.

ummm, awkward...

I've been a fan of Larkin's game since the fool was at Michigan. I feel our roster would be worse without him. I have no doubt his presence influenced D-Cat, and summarily Kane to sign here. I know people like to shit on Copp and Compher but they are legit NHL players that came to a foundering team likely due to Larkin.

I remember some posters being disappointed Kasper or Danielson's ceiling might "only" be Larkin level. If we had two Larkins in the fold we'd be in realgud shape.
