Value of: Dylan Larkin

I do think the Illitches would favor Yzerman over Larkin because he's still the bigger name especially to casual Wings fans.

With that said the only way I think it would make sense to deal Larkin is if you can land an established 20-26 year old center in return. Wings basically need a team in a similar position to them that is desperate for that next step and needing the playoff revenue that has an established young center. Larkin having the NTC further complicates things because he isn't going to a team that isn't going to be playoff bound with his addition. The only potentials I could see are below and I don't really think any of these are super realistic, so don't jump all over me lol. You don't see young established forwards dealt. Wings can't afford to deal for prospects/picks so I think he's staying put.

Columbus- Fantilli. Larkin is good friends with Werenski. Near miss this year.

Kings- Byfield, rapidly losing their window with Kopitar winding down. Had a great regular season but may not make it past the Oilers. Might not want to wait on Byfield to develop and capitalize on what Kopitar has left.

Utah- Logan Cooley, transferred club looking to drum up interest with a playoff run, just on the outside this year. Maybe moves up their window to better coincide with Keller's prime.

Vancouver- Peterson/Larkin swap. Vancouver gets the cap space Wings get a guy that is a bit younger and aligns with our other core players more. Going to be a hard sell for Vancouver after a 45 point season though from Peterson and his cap hit.

St. Louis- Kyro & Thomas, trying to avoid a rebuild, looking for a more veteran presence. I don't think I'd take a Kyrou swap and I doubt they'd deal us Thomas.

Who plays the 1C role for the Wings if they trade Larkin? Sure he’s got excellent trade value, but that leaves a huge hole in their lineup. It’s a backwards move for a club that is trying to make the playoffs.

only one that is even kind of in reality is Petterson, and thats only because he is being hated on. Larkin for Petterson doesnt get considered if Petterson had a normal or somewhat normal season lol

If minnesota is stupid enough to trade rossi, you call them up and see if they would consider larkin for rossi (they shouldnt but lol guerin)

otherwise you are going to be getting futures or 2nd line centers plus something and either option shouldnt be acceptable for the red wings

I mean Larkin for Rossi is kind of robbery for Minnesota so I have no idea why’d they’d not consider that. Rossi is good but small and has been demoted to their 4th line in the playoffs, it would probably take Rossi + Ohgren/1st for Larkin.

Pettersson is doable but a huge risk for Detroit.

The others won’t happen, I agree.

rossi on a less offensive team got 10 less points than larkin. Larkin had better linemates. Larkin plays a more complete game but Rossi is also 5 years younger.

There are pros and cons depending on how you want to argue but i dont think the difference is a 1st. That could be me though. Personally i see Rossi fitting better with the wings core and he wont be on the downtrend when the wings are looking to contend its why i pitched his name.

Another one to potentially consider is shane wright but i right now Rossi holds more value imo and Wright maybe too far of a step back for the wings since from my understanding they are looking to turn the corner sooner rather than later

He played 7 minutes in game 4 lol. Rossi is clearly not liked by management in Minnesota and I don’t think he has the value you think he does. I’d love for Detroit to go for him as I think he’s undervalued there but he’s not worth Larkin in a 1 for 1.

Vancouver wont be on his trade list. Sorry Vancouver, and I understand his reason not to want to go there.

I also don't think Larkin is going to be traded anytime soon.

first that might be 5 on 5 because hes been averaging around 11 minutes in the playoffs (lowest 9:27, highest 12:10) so Minnesota is treating him like a 3rd liner in the playoffs. It could be because of his size but he is also tied for 4th on the wild in production

personally i think its dumb that he is even remotely on the block. I dont think its a one for one deal but I think Rossi+2nd for Larkin should be considered. I wouldnt be surprised if im off but thats my viewpoint on it

I think you’d be surprised at even what Minnesota fans have valued him at and it’s not that.

Columbus and Utah are not trading Fantilli or Cooley for Larkin lol.
I don't disagree. The only way a deal like that happens is if a GM is about to lose his job if a team doesn't make the playoffs or win a cup. The cup winners aren't going to have the caliber young center probably needed to entice the Wings, and the bubble team would be stupid to do it. With that said I never rule of the crazy of NHL GMs, we've all seen plenty of them make bad deals.

If the Wings wanted to deal Larkin they would have needed to do it a few seasons ago before the influx of the youth. I don't think this team is going to be a for sure top 5 tank at this point even without Larkin. Anything that isn't top 5 isn't likely to help quickly enough in our current youth timeline, in any significant way.

Wings can't afford to sell Larkin for picks/ prospects. Even if he isn't thrilled to be here, I think the time to deal Larkin may have passed.

Young NHLers and such, maybe picks.I understand the make-up of going for the cup.
I won’t offer any vets at your request:

Cole P (23 yr old 2nd line winger with centre experience in juniors, 50 pts this year, high IQ)

2025 1st rd pick (I didn’t offer multi picks seems you prefer young players and near ready NHL prospects, plus Jets don’t own any 2nd rd picks for three years)

Two of Jets top 10 prospects depending who

Another prospect in top 15 depending on your preference

Ok. Let me look around the Jets.

- both montreals 2025 1st , and 2026 1st
- montreal gets their 2C long term at good cap hit
- detroit continues to build depth chart
- detroit signs marner to replace larkins offense
- end result is detroit gets 3 free 1st
