I do think the Illitches would favor Yzerman over Larkin because he's still the bigger name especially to casual Wings fans.
With that said the only way I think it would make sense to deal Larkin is if you can land an established 20-26 year old center in return. Wings basically need a team in a similar position to them that is desperate for that next step and needing the playoff revenue that has an established young center. Larkin having the NTC further complicates things because he isn't going to a team that isn't going to be playoff bound with his addition. The only potentials I could see are below and I don't really think any of these are super realistic, so don't jump all over me lol. You don't see young established forwards dealt. Wings can't afford to deal for prospects/picks so I think he's staying put.
Columbus- Fantilli. Larkin is good friends with Werenski. Near miss this year.
Kings- Byfield, rapidly losing their window with Kopitar winding down. Had a great regular season but may not make it past the Oilers. Might not want to wait on Byfield to develop and capitalize on what Kopitar has left.
Utah- Logan Cooley, transferred club looking to drum up interest with a playoff run, just on the outside this year. Maybe moves up their window to better coincide with Keller's prime.
Vancouver- Peterson/Larkin swap. Vancouver gets the cap space Wings get a guy that is a bit younger and aligns with our other core players more. Going to be a hard sell for Vancouver after a 45 point season though from Peterson and his cap hit.
St. Louis- Kyro & Thomas, trying to avoid a rebuild, looking for a more veteran presence. I don't think I'd take a Kyrou swap and I doubt they'd deal us Thomas.
