Before I get memed hard, as a wings fan I do NOT want to trade Larkin. He is our Captain and likely will be for 8 more years.

Just curious to see what teams would pay for a youngish decent 1C and really good 2C in Larkin as a trade?
He isnt signed yet which is odd, UFA after this year.

if they polled all ex nhlers working tv / radio today asking who the top 10 most under respected by fans players are larkin makes every list because he succesfully transports the puck up ice constantly then holds onto it forever in opponants zone while also being a very good passer . doesnt have elite shot or pretty dangles but wheels / motor / smarts / determination make him an excellent offensive force . then on other side of puck he puts as many miles on the odometer chasing opponants and puck down as anybody . not elite offensive force but an elite two way center . now add his leadership and he makes every ex nhlers list . many fans that dont see detroit alot arent wow'ed because hes not elite offensively , but all fans that see him lots have tons of respect . watching his elite wheels on full tilt 60 minutes every nite being controled by a high hockey iq and elite determination level will cause any fan to develop tons of respect , you wont find a red wing fan that would think of trading him .

Provided Detroit is out of the playoff race and the trade deadline, and Larkin is on board with it, Yzerman should look to deal him for some long term assets with the understanding he'll re-sign with Detroit as a UFA in the summer

Maybe a team like Boston would give up Lysell, or a team like Calgary would give up Coronato or Wolf in order to have Larkin for their playoff run next spring

Dude we've until June 30th to get him signed, And he will be resigned. Just because it hasn't happened yet means nothing.

Whatever the rental price is for a good center is because afterall he is going to sign in Columbus to be with his best bud when his deal is up.
 Yeah sure bud, Just like they said that Werenski was signing with Detroit. The only way Columnus is getting Larkin is by a sign and trade that's going to be extremely expensive 2 1st a 2nd and one of Johnson/Sillinger. Larkin will never make it to free agency.

1st, 2nd, b+ prospect for larkin at 50%
A 1C/2C at 50% retained is going to cost a hell of a lot more than a 1st+2nd+b+ prospect not even close. That prospect had better be a blue chip or Yzerman

If he gets traded its because he wants to hit UFA. So he'd be the best rental on the market. 1st and a top prospect Id think.

But I doubt it gets that far. Detroit is probably gonna lock him up long term, and rightfully so.

seems comparable to what giroux got.

Larkin is much younger than Giroux, Plus Larkin is a 1C/2C Giroux is basically a winger at this stage of his career that can move to center if need be. No comparison between the two.
it's a rental. age doesn't really matter. giroux had been more productive and is more consistent. i think it's a pretty good comparable.

what recent comparable did you have in mind?

Duchene cost Columbus a couple good not great prospects a 1st and a conditional 1st based on Duchene resigning. Obviously Larkin is better so he probably gets better prospects or roster players but its probably a potential structure of a deal

As a UFA rental he'd return a 1st and 3rd/4th and a decent prospect

Nobody would pay what he’s worth to us. Larkin gets very little respect on this site.
For awhile I remember Larkin being Wings fans punching bag. Did his game change or did fans just accept him for what he is?

When has Larkin been the Wing fans favorite punching bag, Not sure where you came up with that.

Larkins getting a hell of a lot more than a 1st 3rd/4th and decent prospect. Even Patrick Kane would get better than that.

Somewhere after the great rookie year when he went into a sophomore slump or during the 2019-2020 season.

I think it was because fans thought he could have been a real All-star player and wanted more out of him then later realising that he's still a very great player.

Or what Deca Guard said above.

I think you’re misremembering or remembering a few posts from a very small minority of our fanbase. Larkin has pretty much been a universal fan favorite with us since he stepped into the league. His drive is hard not to respect.
